I am back from the UCSF Spine Center and I got some news that is not all that great but it could be some of the answers that I am looking for.
I have a large herniation at t11-t12, this is where your lower ribs come in to your spine. This is an uncommon location for a herniation and the disc is pressing on my spinal cord. I talked with the doctor about this and he said that this could be causing some of the pain in my abdomen but it wouldn't be causing the continuous diarrhea or the bloody stools that I have been having.
I am not sure what to do now because in order for me to have back surgery I have to be off of prednisone and right now pred is helping me with a lot of my abdominal pain. I will see my regular doctor on Tuesday and I will try to get a referal to UCSF Center for digestive disorders.
The more that I find out the more confused that I get. I no longer know what to think. What I do know is that the spinal injury happened in 2006 and that I have had abdominal problems since 2003. While I do think that some of the pain that I am feeling is related to my injury I do not think that is all that is wrong. I hope that I get some answers soon.
