My daughter just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl 2 weeks ago. Already I 'm worried about what I might have passed on to her. I have had CD for over 30 years, and now have "probable MS'. The baby' father was diagnosed with Type1 diabetes at the age of 5 . He is 22 now and takes insulin 3 times a day.

Has anyone ever had their children tested for CD genes or whatever else. How old do kids have to be to have this done. I know they have identified a CD gene .

What are your thoughts on this ?I'd love to hear your opinions and advice.

Both my daughter and I have CD. I worry greatly about my granddaughter because she always complains that her tummy hurts. She is 6 years old. If I were you I wouldn't look for trouble. The chances that it was passed onto your granddaughter is more then the general public but still relatively low. If the baby doesn't keep up in height and weight then you can probably have it checked but I don't think it's necessary to have it checked this early. At least you and your daughter are aware that the possiblity is there and you know what to look for but just relax and enjoy your new granddaughter. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

As far as I understand it, they identified a possible gene but nothing is conclusive. I'm not aware of any genetic testing specific to CD yet. I agree with MormorVicky........enjoy your granddaughter and don't worry until you have cause to worry. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I haven't had my children tested (currently pregnant with my first), but my husband and I did undergo genetic testing at the Cleveland Clinic when we were thinking of conceiving. His mother had rheumatoid arthritis, and I have UC, so we wanted to know what the chance was of passing along either of these diseases, or any other autoimmune disease, to our child. They basically looked at our genes and other risk factors and assigned a percentage. We came out with a 2-5% chance of passing either disease on to our child.

Hey girlie!!! I am actually back! With the way that baby is gaining weight I don't think you need to be worried. But I think that you just need to be aware of the symptoms and be watchful. Pray that she will not have any problems, but beyond that just love that baby girl!!! Have an amazing Christmas dear friend!

Thank you all for your replies...yes! I do need to stop worrying. This baby is amazingl. She was born at 7lbs14oz.s and two weeks later weighs 9lbs9ozs. She is the most beauitful, patient and content little thing I've ever seen. I spend hours just looking at her little face and all her many expressions already. I am so enjoying this new Blessing in my life and will take your advice and think only positive things for her.

I have a new grandson so I know the feeling. Just wait until she laughs and smiles. Then your heart will truly melt. Merry Christmas new grandma.
