Hi everybody, my name is Tony. I am 23 years old and I have C.F. I found this site about
a month ago and have been meaning to post here. I don't have a ton of free time but I will post when possible. I have always had a mild case of C.F. but when I was in high school i struggled with not being "normal" there for I wanted to be like the other kids. I smoked for about
2-3 years on and off and heavily experimented with drugs and alcohol. The summer after I graduated I was admitted to the hospital for the first time. At the time I thought I would change and begin to take care of myself, but I didn't. I quit smoking at that point, but still drank and did not did breathing treatments. It was not until I lived on my own that I began to grow up. The biggest push for health came when I married my wife almost 3 years ago. With her help I began to do better, but the shining moment that happened in my life came almost a year ago. In march something clicked and me and my wife decided to join a gym. Since that time my health has improved tremendously.
In the past couple of months I have really kicked things into high gear. I have decided to get certified as a personal trainer, as well as sports/life nutritionist. I have found how much a good diet and excercise can help me so I plan on trying to work with my doctors to help other young people with C.F. to get healthy. I know there are many people who are close to my age who look like they could work out if only they had the inspiration to do so. I am not so naive to think that I will be an inspiration to all, but If I can help another person feel as good health wise as I do then I will be happy.I have also decided to follow a dream and pursue a career (at least an amatuer one) in my favorite sport Mixed Martial Arts. A famous fighter in Oregon -Matt Lindland does charity for C.F. and we talked, he has offered for me to come out to one of his camps to begin training with Team Quest. I also have an MMA teacher were I live who is very interested in training me. I am 5'9 and weigh 155 lbs. right now I have a very low body fat % and have gained 2-3 inches of lean muscle all over my frame so far. I really would like to help anybody on this forum in any way I can.
You can e-mail me if you want at [email protected]
I will reply as time allows, right now I am working with my 15 year old brother to lose weight, he is 5'8 and 215 lbs. I work during the day and then I'm at the gym about 4-5 nights a week, plus I have to attend to my wife or there could be trouble.
BTW I read a thread a while back about how to fatten up a child's meal and someone suggested to add alot of cheese to it. I would not suggest to much dairy in any C.F. patients life that has mild-severe C.F. more dairy produces thicker mucus. The thicker it is the harder it will be to get out.Thank you in advance to anyone who post back to this!
