Catherine, You will do fine.....
My name is Bob Hutchinson, i am 65 years old and was fine until i turned 57....since then i have had cancer, my pancreas failed, i have had 7 heart attacks, 2 strokes. 4 heart surgeries and 3 cancer surgeries.
And I will do fine as well.....I only recently found out that i have probably had cf all of my life....and believe me i had a good life with nothing held back....As I look back to my party days and wild times i now realize it has been with me forever...and I have survived. but now see that the cf signs were always there..(i hated doctors and never went)..
to answer your question...i am insulin dependent cf diabetic....not to worry....see yur doctor and monitor it carefully....I did not and now have neuropathy in my legs, arms, feet and hands..(no feeling but pain) If you pay attention and do what they tell you this will not happen to you.
there is nothing you cant do you just have to be a little careful.
there are a lot of new meds out there and even at my age i live a perfectly normal life.....you will have to give up a few things but not much.....
any time you want to talk email me and i will get online....i use msn messenger....
Ps. I have a daughter just a few years older than you and she is fine so it does not necessarily get passed on....even though it is genetic
