I discovered something odd a few weeks ago: a banana a day (plus my meds, of course) keeps the depression away. I dug around the scientific community online to find a reason, and apparently, whatever it is in the welbutrin that jumpstarts dopamine is enhanced by bananas. They also have the precursors to serotonin (sp?) and norepinephrine in them. Supposedly, in some cases, it works well enough for the person to be taken off the meds. The catch of course is eating a banana EVERY day.
Anybody else had this experience or heard about it?

Bananas are VERY good for you. As well as the reasons you have listed above, they are full of Potassium and many V&M's. If your gonna eat anything once a day... i'd make it a banana

The potassium, vitamins, and the fact that it was a fruit was the first reason I started eating them. I had no idea of the depression and anxiety bonuses involved until I noticed the effects.

I need to start eating more of them then. I used to have one a day ,and then just quit for some reason.

Does banana still work warm and if it is accompanied by melted chocolate and cookie dough ice cream? Just wondering. I think I'd manage 3 a day if that was the case lol.

Wow, never knew what to expect when opening this topic, but great that the banana's are helping you!

I used to eat a lot of them, but lately I have switched to apple's, melons, and pineapple (love those :) ).

Gem, haha, I think melted chocolate and ice cream will work with no matter what happens. That stuff is sooo good.

supposedly, chocolate is actually supposed to help depression as well. Something about it having a chemical that the body uses to create the "love chemical" ( I think it was a variation of serotonin.) At any rate, chocolate should be more than fine, although dark chopcolate is supposed to best for it.

Mmmmmmmm........I now have a medical reason too eat bananas AND chocolate!!!!!

Haha, next all I need is a reason too eat cake, and I'll be sorted. Will never have too eat real food again, yay!!

I just read in the paper today that chocolate and chicken soup (!) increase the rate of which serotonine is released, thus make you happier :)

hi

my husabnd eats a banana   EVERY DAY....

he's been on Remeron now  about 18 months....

and  doing well.

I dont know if Banana's  speed up the med or not...

lately I've wondered if hes starting to be...   not helped as much...

hes been  working his usual  day 8 hours... comes home & lays down to watch tv in bed... till supper... eats then goes back to bed

he finally goes to bed for the night at 9 pm

hes a bit moody again...

make me wonder

if the body  starts too  stop responding to medications after a  while...

eyes   ??

My dietician

says  1 banana  = 2 serveings of fruites  & is high in sugar

So a banana is two fruit portions. They do have a lot of sugar in them especially when they get really ripe.

Maybe your husband needs a bump in his medication. Have him discuss with the doctor. He could just be tired also.

Wow! what a combination...Chocolate, bananas and chicken soup! 

All this time I have been spending money on my psychiatrist and antidepressants/antianxiety medications and perhaps all I needed was a BANANA tongue
