I ALSO HAVE TAKEN ZOLOFT FOR 10 MONTHS NOW LOW DOSE 25. IT HAS HELPED A LOT WITH THE PANIC ATTACKS. I HAVE GAINED 23 PDS FROM IT AND VERY FRUSTRATED. I EXERCISE AND AM NOW DOWN TO 1400 CALORIES A DAY TO SEE IF THAT HELPS. I ALSO QUIT SMOKING A YEAR AGO SO I'M SURE THAT IS PLAYING A PART IN IT. IF YOUR DOCTOR DOESN'T THINK IT MAKES YOU GAIN WEIGHT. FIND A NURSE PRACTITIONER, SHE WAS UP FRONT AND SAID IT WILL MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT. I CAN'T BE WITHOUT IT DUE TO PANIC ATTACKS. SO I HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO LOSE THE PDS. ANY HELP APPRECIATE IT.                                                            THANKS

Have you tried any other meds? I am on Paxil and it doesn't make me gain weight. I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. My advice is check with you doc about switching meds and/or giving you something fast acting for panic attacks. Hope you find your answers.\ RAchel

As Rachel said contact your doctor. Meds seem to affect different people in different ways.
My mom is currently on zoloft and it is helping her lose weight...so see what else your doctor can prescribe.

IED SO QUICKLY. YES THEY TRIED XANAC AND ATIVAN WHICH WORK GREAT BUT THEY SAY THEY WON'T LET ME TAKE THOSE VERY LONG BECAUSE THERE ADDICTING I SAY WHAT ISN'T ADDICTING IF IT WORKS.  I AM GOING TO TALK WITH MY NURSE PRACT.  SHE IS MUCH MORE UNDERSTANDING. I CAN'T LIVE WITH PANIC ATTACKS, THEY HAVE TO BE TREATED. I WAS HAVING WAY TO MANY THANKS SO MUCH GOOD TO BE ABLE TO RELATE TO OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM.  KJM

Welcome to  HealingWell and the Depression forum.  I am on cymbalta and I have gained 20 lbs........ugh. So I have finally convinced my P-doc I want off of it. She claims it does not cause weight gain so I want to prescribe it to her.......... giggle.

I am going to try Wellbutrin at a low dose but first have to wean off the Cymbalta.  It is bad enough to have panic attacks but then add to it the wieight gain and now you feel worse and very frustrated.  At least that is how I feel.

Hi KjM, Have you talked to your dr. about using Klonopin?  It is an anti anxiety med but it is specifically used to help with panic attacks.  many people have been helped by it and the panic has stopped and as far as I know it does not cause any weight gain.  Just a suggestion though.  Also, have you tried drinking more water to feel full - that helps.  Another thing that helps me is I drink low sodium vegetable juice.  That really helps fill me up and it is low in calories.  Talk to your dr. about changing meds and let us know how you are doing.

quitting smoking will cause weight gain...thats pretty common

about a month after I watched my mother pass away in my home I became severely depressed so I went to my doctor and he put me on Paxil and Klonopin. Pre Paxil I weighed 116 lbs and 6 months later I weighed 176 lbs. I'm 5ft 8 and my normal weight ranged from 116 to 120 lbs. I haven't taken Paxil since mid 2001 but I still haven't lost any weight. I still take Klonopin and it really helps control my anxiety.

I've been on Celexa for over a year now, and have gained about 30lbs. I have always been skinny, but now i have a gut growing. I had taken Celexa before when i was younger, but i did not make me gain weight like it is now
