Abilify For Depression?

I was recently prescribed a very low dose of Abilify (generic --Aripiprazole) for major depression, recurrent. I'm on 2 mg of Abilify once-a-day to augment the Effexor I currently take for my depression. I know that Abilify is an anti-psychotic. I do like and trust my psych doc, but I can't find Abilify, in any literature (net) being used for depression. Has anyone been prescribed Abilify together with an anti-depressant? Has anyone heard of this drug combination? If you have could you please share your results and experiences?

Hi Patrick,

I take Effexor, Abilify and Xanax together. I don't know if I am considered psychotic, but it does help my depression. In fact it works very well together. I had a lot of obsessive thinking and the abilify has stopped that. So I believe it is a good combination. I take 375mg of effexor, and 10mg of abilify. Together it works well. I am so glad that I got to try it. I hope that it works for you too.

yes patrick agree with karen, did the same combo of 375 effexor and 15 abilify, now pristiq, 4wks, 200, and really thinking of going back on abilify also. jamie, 37, male.

iddm, major depression, severe borderline personality disorder, hormone deficient, diabetic nuropathy, water works, back, etc, etc!!

Thanks Jamie and karen, I to have obsessive thoughts, and the Abilify helps me a lot. I am also on 300mg Effexor, 100mg Trazodone and 4 mg Xanax. Very nice to meet you!

patrick,

for my depression i was prescribed zyprexa (an antipsychotic) to augment my lexapro. the combination of an anti-psychotic with an antidepressant is very common, as the AP helps the AD work. it did for me, during a very hard and dark time, it got me out of being really down. hope it works well for you.

Hi Patrick!

A few months ago I was prescribed Abilify 2mg. It worked very well with my depression but it brought out my anxiety really bad. I stopped using it and tried other meds but they didn't seem to work as good for my depression as Abilify. So it does work for depression. The only good info I got was from other people telling me. There is a website which I can't log into right now is called www.crazymeds.us. Maybe that will give you some info on it?
