So I am feeling stronger today and I am looking for the positives and trying to cheer myself up. So what do you guys do to cheer yourselves up when you are feeling sad??!!  how do you take your mind of things?!

Good Morning Li,

I indulge in reading or in going out to lunch, especially with my daughter or granddaughters.  I love to read and it takes my mind off my spinning thoughts.

I work really hard at staying in the moment but find it extremely difficult at times.

Hi Li, I'm glad you're feeling stronger today....that's a wonderful thing! I hope things continue to get better.....looking for the positives is a great plan, and I appreciate your post. I love to spend time outdoors in nature, going for long walks in the woods or tending to my gardens, or even just sitting and watching/listening to the birds and animals and all the life around me. Focusing on the so-called small things in life really makes me feel good. I also enjoy a good movie, a good book, a few hours of painting or listening to music (or both at the same time!), and definitely time with my pets - they're always a positive source of unconditional love.

I play cards or games with my 8 year old, watch "I Love Lucy" (Im a Lucy Junkie, its pretty much all I watch) listen to music - soothing music, new age, classical, light-70's) and for some reason cleaning has become my latest distraction, or thing that cheers me up - its wierd. Like tonight I cant wait to get home to clean the bathroom. (it barely needs it) Has to be some wierd disorder. Cooking and baking cheers me up to... eating of course.

Glad you're feeling better today, Li! I'm all about getting those exercise endorphins, so there's nothing like a run in the park or swim in the pool to make me feel all relaxed and peaceful.

I try to go outside and look at nature. There are so many gifts all around us that we miss everyday.The beauty of a sunset ,the roar of the ocean,baby animals, flowers blooming. It is hard when you feel crappy to get out of bed sometimes . I find when I do that I am blessed. Hope that in some way this helps.

p.s i also remind myself of what i HAVE achieved- my first pyschiatrist told me at the age of 14 that i would never function as a member of society. and yet i went to college, got 2 degrees, have a professional career and a healthy, normal social life. i remind myself how those who doubted me need to eat their words! i am still troubled and flawed, but i have not let illness or negativity rule my life.

I thnk a good idea is to find something positive in each day. Even if it is just saying hello to somebody. There is always sometthing there if we just look. So one positive thing each day. I even try to turn a negative into a postitive. Like I ache today from working yesterday. But at least I have the day off to relax.

My t;hink right now is leaving work at work. I am fairly new and still learning the ropes. But I have to learn to leave the job there when I come home. Not to question anything that I did. Not to think of it at all. That is more healthy.
