I am so lost

Based on what you've said, you're not an extrovert. When you don't make an effort to be around people or talk to them, others will just assume you wish to be by yourself and they won't make an effort to get to know you or talk to you. As hard as it can be, you really just have to go out and try to meet people. It might be easier if you were to meet a friend of a friend while with your friend so it's a more comfortable environment. I don't know if you are taking any meds or not, but an anti-depressant might be beneficial. Good luck!

It can be an effort to be social. It's possible that a party or a night out with a lot of activity and talking isn't the best means of a social outlet for you at the moment. Try meeting/spending time with some one who has similar interests, likes and dislikes. If you can find some one with a more "quiet" personality, you may have an easier time and feel more comfortable. I've found that every introverted person has an inner-extrovert and they just need to be comfortable and enjoying themselves for that to shine through.

Hi Taryn, I'm sure you have a lot of wonderful qualities, and maybe you feel like you aren't fitting in because you are meeting the wrong kinds of people. I am quiet too, so I share your frustrations- loud people seem to get all the attention sometimes. I've found that volunteering is a good, low-pressure way to meet people with similar interests.
