prozac and panic attacks!!

Hello everyone, You all probably don't know me on this forum because i'm usually at the panic attack forum. I do suffer from depression as well so i decided to pay you guys a visit.Plus i need some input on this new med i'm taking. Anyway after going through a nightmare on cymbalta 30mg my PDoc put me on prozac about 2 weeks ago. So far i'm not having any bad side effects but i can't tell whether i feel better or not yet.My question is has anyone ever taken this medication and if so can  you let me know how your experience was?If anyone wants to know how my nightmare was on cymbalta you can visit the panic attack forum to read my post.NOt saying that cymbalta will effect everyone like it did me because i've heard some good stories about cymbalta but it was an awful experience for me. nono

I took Cymbalta for a while because they thought they could kill 2 birds with one stone (the depression and Fibro). I don't remember any real side effects from it, but I know it didn't help my fibro, so I went back to Prozac. We were looking for ways to combine pills so I don't have to take as many. I keep taking the handfuls I do now. I'd rather do that and feel I am getting closer to the track than only take a few and still feel like crap!

I took cymbalta for a month... the first 2 weeks i had no appetite. the 2nd 2 weeks i spent in the bed throwing up. I lost 12 lbs on cymbalta, and it didnt help anything at all. (except my weight!)

Then my pdoc switched me to prozac. I am on it now. I have been on it for a while now, several months.... I think it is helping... I am not really sure because I am on 3 different meds now. I take the prozac, and trazadone, and focalin. I have been having ups and downs so Im not sure how its helping me.. I just wish that it were because this is the..1....2...3rd thing I have tried and Im just not sure anything is working. I always seem to be the complicated person anyways... so its so hard for me to find anything to help me..

Its different for everyone so... as far as I know I didnt have any side-effects when I started it so... thats good I suppose. Hopefully you will not have any bad side-effects either. Good luck and I hope it helps you! take care

an oldy but a goodie. has many theraputic elements that helps a lot of people out. add, adhd, aspergers, autism spectrum disorder, depression. more of an upper in terms of it's chemical functions. hope it works for you.nice of you to say hi, thus i do to, hi. be safe and know that we are here for you. with compassion. jamie.

I was on Prozac for depression and anxiety for years. It helped both immensely. My panic attacks stopped. Just stopped. Hooray! Remember it takes 6 weeks for it to build up in your system, though. If it's not working yet, be patient, and it will. If you're not having side effects, then you'll probably do well on it.

So nice to have you on the forum. I took prozac years ago, but gained a lot of weight from it so I switched, this doens't mean that will happen to you. We all react differently on different meds. But it did help with my depression.

I hope that you do well on the medication. And like as was stated above, it does take six weeks or so to get it's full effects.

Thank you guys for all the input.Thank you so much serfena that is very encouraging what you said about your panic attacks stopping while you were on prozac. I hope it does the same for me. Like i said i haven't been having any real side effects maybe a headache here and there. Hopefully it will be like you said Karen since i'm not having any side effects it will work for me. Tennis i hope you have been feeling better. I took the medicine you are on before as well (trazadone) that stuff had me knocked out. Thank you all! I hope everybody is having a wonderful night or day depending on where you all reside.

I am so glad you posted here as the members in the depression forum are wise and know depression well. As you know I have a 27 year hx of Anxiety/Depression and I did try Prozac once a long time ago but I did not know the meds well and as soon as I started to have side effects the medication was stopped. I agree with Serafena, it does take 4-6 weeks for the full therapuetic effect of most of the AD's to kick in.

I tried the Cymbalta for about 18 months and did not feel it helped me that much. The Trazodone for sleep works well for me at low dose, 100 mg.

Right now I am not on another AD as I stopped the Cymbalta in April and wanted to see how I did with therapy and the antianxiety meds.
