Hi Mousegirl,
Even just trying it is doing it. The first thing that I do is regulate my breathing. In through the nose and out through the mouth. I do that about ten times. Then I focus on a mantra. That is a senseless word that you make up and it should contain about four syllables. Mine is oom-nell-ee-yom. I breathe in on one syllable and out on the next. I do this for about five to ten minutes. Then I focus on relaxing my muscles from the top of my head all the way down to the tip of my toes. There are other methods, but this is what works for me. If I am meditating just to relax, I sit in a half lotus style. That is with my legs crossed on the bed. Make sure that you are comfortable, or else you will be thinking about that instead of meditating. If I am trying to go to sleep, I do it while laying down. I am usually asleep before I relax all of my muscles. I often have to do my shoulders more than once because they hold a lot of tension. If I were you, I would look this up on the internet, or get a book on it, though I do my own thing. And that works for me. But there are some very good books on meditation. And remember when you practice it, you are actually doing it. The relaxing is the most important part. And focusing on your breathing. I hope that this helps some.
Hugs, Karen
