No wonder i`m depressed will it ever get better

Due to continuning severe debilitating back pain  today i had seven injections into my spine in a bid to relieve some of the apin and give me the ability to walk again but only time will tell .At the moment it has intensified the pain ten fold .On the 5th of february i`m booked in to have an abdominal mass removed more worry .The dr is concerned as to my mental state he should be on my side of the fence and see first hand how i`m feeling .Meds are not the answer it only covers the symptoms and only some of the it does not remove the cause . One thing i`m dreading like the last surgery i had three nurses hold me down while someone held the mask on my face .Due to abuse as a child it`s one thing that really freaks me out so bad .they tell me there is no other way ..My surgeon is so lovely but it`s the anesethist that controls the anesthetic .Just not looling forward to it one bit .

I have even been contemplating not having the surgery but i want to be here for the birth of my first grandchild so know it has to be done .

More surgery, I am so sorry.  But this is really important to get through.  Hopefully like Jamie says, they can give you something to relax you before they put the mask on.  Try not to worry aobut it too much.  Take it with stride, once the mask is on, you are out like a light.  You will get through this.  It is an important surgery Snowflake.  And you will be there for the grandbaby. 

Know that we are here for you and support your every move.  Come to us when you need to.  We all really care about you.

Most hospitals and anesthesiologists, at least in the US, induce anesthesia with IV medications. Masks are generally only used for very brief procedures on young children. You should have an opportunity to talk to the anesthesiologist before the procedure; ask him/her to be induced this way.

If it's an oxygen mask that's the problem after surgery, ask for a cannula, which is the two prongs that fit in your nostrils.

Good luck, and remember there's no reason for you to be terrorized that way!

Thanks Karen and Jamie .I actually had a reasonable trip and yes my car has great airconditioning .I left home at 8am and arrived here at 6:30pm so it has been a very long day .I have my inlaws home for a couple of days all to myself so will be definately taking it easy no cleaning and definately no cooking . Am getting my car fixed tomorrow so am going to the movies with the temperature so hot the picture theatre is about the coolest place i can think of .
Will drop back in a bit later on will just see how things go .

A very quick update as i have to prepare for my next adventure the removal of the mass on friday .Hubby and i will go down tomorrow so it will not be a middle of the night run to get to the hospital in the early hours of the morning to be prepared for suregery .
As for the injections in my spine they were not as successful as we had hoped infact the dr this morning has ordered for them to be repeated next wednesdayagain he told me i need to find some relief .so with surgery this friday and then the injections wednesday one way or the other i`m going to have more pain .
As it is today i have so much pain with my back and the lack of sleep due to pain and stress has sent me round the bend i`m not siure what i`m doing or what i`m even supposed to do .
I will endevour to let you know how things go in given time .

Thanks for posting, I hope that the surgery goes well. You have been through so much in this past year. I hope that things get better for you.

How is the family doing? How is your daughter? And the grand baby? I hope things are going good in that aspect.

Is is still hot down there? It is cold here but warming up a little. We still have a lot of snow. Wish I could send you some to cool you down. But it would melt before it got there. lol...

I hope that you are feeling better soon. I hope that the injections help this time around.

Just a quick update as i cant sit here for too much longer .Surgery was a lot more complicated than first thought and too so much longer in theatre than expected .I was due to go home that after noon but due to severe pain they had to keep me i just could not bear it .At one stage i was taken back into recovery for more pain relief and had to go back on the monitors before they would accecpt me back upstairs in the ward ..
I allowed out the following day but had to stay in town for a few days . Wednesday i had to have the injections in my spine again .there has been so much going on i`m worn out ,But just what was involved in the surgery has taken a toll on me on the inside i can`t talk to anyone here about as my family would not understand how it`s effecting me .will just keep it to myself atm and see how i go .I just dont even want to talk to my dr about it .

Jamiee having the second lot of needles was definately not like the first lot atleast they were tollerably .the second ones had to be put in at an odd angle and that was just so painful .But when they injected the medication in the pain was out of this world and as a result i was not allowed to go home for three hours as i needed to be monitered .Good thing it eventually settled down and so far pain is minimal but in saying that i have not done anything since i returned home except for one day doing some washing but that ended in disaster and then after talking to my surgeon a couple of days later he told me i was to do nothing for six weeks and definately no lifting ( i only wished he had told me that when i was in hospital ) but here it is now three weeks since surgery my wounds have finally decided to heal which is a plus .
The pathology on the tumors was great so even better .I have had problems witht he water works department with an infection and now the dr has prescribed some new medication in a hope to stop some of the pain and frequent trips to the bathroom at night ( before surgery i never had to go during the night) now it can be up to five times each night just to relieve pain .
I`m bck seeing the psychologist again she rang the other day my fourty minute session turned out to be two hours long i was just so drained but felt a little better a few days after just from taking to her .I have ongoing problems that will take years if ever to fix there is always something coming up when you think things could not get any worse sure enough there is something else there ready to take it`s place .
