welbutrin side effects

I got put on welbutrin about three weeks ago while I was in the hospital. I've noticed some side effects that are a little wierd, I think. My mouth feels dry and I'm always licking my lips. I feel jittery inside (not anxiety). I'm also sleeping a little less. None of these symptoms are really bad, I just feel wierd.

The welbutrin seems to be helping with my depression, so I hate to drop it. I also take prozac, trazodone, and lorazepam. I've taken those for years.

Anyway, is anyone here on welbutrin? Do you have side effects? Do they subside?

I couldn't take a high dose of welbutrin. It made everything taste funny to me and I couldn't sleep. But I liked the way that it made me think. I was sharp as a tack. I take pristiq now with ablify and xanax. So far the combination is doing well. Today is slower. But the weather really sucks so that does not help.

I'm also currently on welbutrin. I had the exact same side effects, but they subside over time. The sleeplessness lasted the longest for me- it was about two and a half weeks before I could calm my hype down enough to sleep. But I was also put on a mood-stabilizer, and that helped with the sleeplessness too. The jitteriness also goes away with time, once your body gets used to the medication. So does the dry mouth.

I was on Wellbutrin a while back. In my case, the side effects just kept getting worse. I would suggest you talk with your psychiatrist. S/he might be able to adjust your dose, add another medication to help with the side effects or provide some additional support to help you deal with the side effects.

It's wonderful that Wellbutrin is helping you, but it is something that needs to be carefully monitored. Some people find the side effects lessen over time. Some are helped by adjunct meds. Others just cannot tolerate it. Most important thing is to monitor your heart rate & bp. If your hr is rising & bp is dropping more & more as time goes on, you need to get checked out by a doctor.

As for sleeping, you might try searching this site for recommendations. A lot of people have posted suggestions about everything from tea to lavender to warm baths & structured bedtime routines and something might be helpful to you. Another thing that might help with the sleeplessness & side effects is acupuncture -- I know it's been really helpful to me. :)

Just reviving my old thread here......I ended up seeing my psychiatrist as an emergency appointment, (a couple of days after my other appointment with him) because my side effects got much worse and I felt like I was going to crawl out of my own skin. I was so jittery and my tongue was doing weird things. Anyway - he took me off the wellbutrin immediately, and I was put back on 2mg of Abilify which is making me feel really good. That was a good drug for me in the past - it just became too expensive last April. Yay, for my insurance. :( My doc gave me samples, and he's going to keep doing that for as long as he can. Then I will just have to come up with the money for the Abilify.

I still am having weird tongue things happening from the wellbutrin. I'm a bit concerned about that as it's been over a week since I stopped the drug. But the jittery stuff, and wanting to crawl out of my skin, is gone.

Oy, myjoy.

You might be interested in talking to your doctor about Risperdal (lol! this is not a drug commercial!) which is very similar to abilify but isn't as expensive. they are both "atypical antipsychotics" so to speak, and the only difference is that abilify is less specific so that it stimulates receptors beyond just the dopaminergic ones.

YES SMART. ALTHOUGH RISPERIDAL IS KNOWN MORESO TO CAUSE TARDIV DYSKENESIA THAN ABLILIFY. JUST MY 2 CENTS. ALL THE BEST, JAMIE. I HAD SOME TD ON RESPERIDAL, BUT NOT WITH ABILIFY. THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT TO MENTION.
