Does anyone have any experience with this? My daughter is 19 and lives with me. she just had a second child 8 months ago and when he was about 4 months she suddenly began changing and now thigns are out of control. she is mean, snappy,bossy, yells alot. she sleeps alot then keeps late hours. doesnt want to watch her kids. she has made remarks that the second baby doesnt even feel like hers. she also feels guilty for having a second one and not having the time with the first one she used to. we were preg together when she had her first child who is almost 3 and mine is 3.5. she is also very mean to my child (her lil sister) my child gets scared and calls her mean. i am thinking of moving out and letting her deal because i have supported her way to long. she talks abt getting a job but then just lives off me. i have anxiety-panic-depression myself and i have to think of my health because i still have a 16 yr old and 3 yr old to raise.

any advice??
she doesnt want on meds. she use to take xanax for anxiety but mostly has dealt with it on her own.
she has no insurance so we cant afford counseling

Welcome to the HealingWell Depression forum.  I think Siobhan is right, it does sound like post natal depression.  I am going to give you another site in case she wants to try it.  It is a free online depression website.

I have heard many members say that it has helped them.  I hope that it helps your daughter.

Please keep posting and let us know how things are going.  I know that you don't want to enable your daughter and it sounds like you living there might be doing that, so I don't blame you for wanting to move out.  But take care of you though all of this.  It will help you to help her.

Hi there

You are in a very difficult situation with your daughter, her children and your other children. I can see you are being pulled every which way and I truly feel sorry for you. Can you both survive if you move out? It sounds to me like she isn't doing anything much but keeping late hours and sleeping all day and not looking after or mothering her kids at all.

You need to get some intervention, I am not sure who but there must be some government department who could help you, maybe your Human Services Dept might be able to help your daughter with the post natal depression, which by the way is and can be very debilitating to the person who is suffering. She sounds like she can't or maybe doesn't want to help herself so you must do it for her.


I hope you are able to get some help for all of you, please let us know how you are going in the future.

I am not trying to do any enabling. But I do not want the kids taken from her. SHe was raised in a very very good home. It is not her fault she has this. With her first she was an awesome beyond awesome mom. Now as long as I got the kids it would be ok. but it would not do her anymore help or the kids if they got removed from here. thats why i have not told my doctor cuz i am not sure what action they would take. my only chance is to kinda threaten my daughter that i will tell the doc in order to help her and what the possible consequences could be if she doesnt go in wilingly. and talk to her and keep encouraging her. maybe scare her into going.

no she could not survive without my income. only through state assistance and they only do so much.

her father committed suicide a few yrs back and her sister and I have had depression and anxiety from it and been on medicines. unfortunately she has seen us have severe Emergency room reactin from meds so that is why she refuses. she feels she can eventually over come on her own without risking have severe of nearly fatal reactions like i have had. i tried to tell he though that the one nearly fatal reaction was a bad dose the doctor gave me. she gave me to many mg for my weight.

we have been on meds long enough now and know enough to know what to watch for, what meds are safe and how she can safely start on one.

THANK YOU all for your replies. I will prob be having another more intense talk with her this week. soon so i can call and make an appt with my doc for her.
