Thanks Giving is creeping up on us, do you have any plans?

Hey everybody,

I just realized how close Thanksgiving is.  We are suppose to go to see the grandchildren this year.  I love to go, but hate not having all the leftovers.  I don't know what to bring, so I am thinking about making a blackberry cobbler.  Not the traditional desert, but have a freezer full of blackberries.  The recipe is easy.  Berries, yellow cake mix and a stick of margarine.  You just put it in in that order and bake it.  So easy and so good especially warm with icecream.

Let us know what you are doing on the turkey day.  I realize some of you have already had your Thanksgiving and some of you may not celebrate it depending on your location.  Maybe you have another holiday instead.  Share with us.

my husband has to work thanksgiving day, but he (and me) have the next three days off after that so we're driving up to my hometown thanksgiving night, and my husband's dad is also driving to my hometown, and we're going to do thanksgiving a day late.

My hubby and I will be taking our daughter and granddaughters out for dinner.  The only immediate family I have on my side are my children and grandchildren.  We spend all of Christmas with my in-laws which is great fun. 

It's Genetic,  I would love to learn how to knit

I use to knit and crochet. I miss that. It was something I would like to do in the evenings while watching tv. This brings back good memories. Thanks for whoever brought this up. My great aunt taught me a lot. I miss her dearly.

I learned to knit by watching YouTube videos. They have it for both right and left handed knitters. Very easy. Start with Size 7 needles since they are the easiest to work with. Ask the yarn store for a medium weight yarn. I picked a nice multi-colored yarn and made a scarf for my first project. You will also need a pair of sharp scissors & a yarn needle (plastic). You can buy a book or choose a simple pattern on-line. Your first project should probably just require cast-on stitches, knit & purl stitches & cast-off stitches. It's so fun & easy to learn. I just finished a hat for my dad for Christmas. I'm thinking of making a cable knit pillow for my next project. :) So fun & relaxing.

All-
I'm not sure about Thanksgiving. My family is getting together at my parents' house, but it all seems like a nightmare waiting to happen. Expectations are sky-high and the threats have already started (he better not/she better not/you better not, or else I will ...). My counselor suggesting going for an hour but I'm not sure I can with my bad back -- 2.5 hours of driving for one miserable hour with my family. Sounds like a bad deal & I don't even have insurance right now so if I throw my back out, I'm out of luck.
If I don't go, I'll probably have Thanksgiving at my place for people in my church who don't have families or who don't have money to celebrate. I've done that in the past & really enjoyed it.
Also, I have an interview today for a holiday job, so I may be resting up for the crazy hoards coming on Black Friday. Ugghhh! People can be so horrible to one another during the holidays, but at least it's good money for me. :)

I'm spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my family. I'm looking forward to it and I'm not at the same time. We'll be getting together on Friday, which is the first of my ex-husband's birthdays since I filed for divorce. My family is wonderful and supportive and will be there for me if I need them. I really want to be there for them too. One of my brother-in-laws, and father of my 3 year old neice, has cancer and has been told he will not be here next Thanksgiving. We are all trying to stay in the moment so not to miss any good time we can spend together. It's hard but we do nothing well if not rally around each other.

How delighted I was to read so many folks here knit! I don't but I sew. I was doing things mostly for my sisters. Then after getting out of the hospital I started a small side business out of my home making...well, whatever. Costumes, fabric flower pins, hats, etc. I'm really excited about it today because earlier I took an order for a purse I designed. =) I can't quit my day job....yet. lol.


Hhmmm....That may seem like a big, odd jump in topics. Maybe it is. I was just begining to tear up, feeling just overwhelmed with emotions, some wonderful, others painful. I blinked a few times and my eyes settled on the word "Thanksgiving". I am thankful for my family, my treatment, this forum, all of you, that I've progressed in recovery to a place where I not only can think I can make a purse, I can talk to someone about it and charge a fair price...why? because my work (and I) is worth it! I hope we can all think of things to be thankful for.
