I have never taken either of them so I can't help you there. But my girlfriend was on lexapro and it helped her. She can't get it now because it isn't in her insurance plan anymore. But she said she really liked it.

I hope that somebody else has posted and can help you more. Have you researched them on the internet yet? Checked out the side effects. Even if somebody does take it, it doesn't mean it will work the same for you. So the best thing that you can do is trial and error. They work differently on different people.

I hope that you find what is right for you. I have not heard bad things about either one actually.

Thanks. I need strong right now I believe. And the celexa heart warning worries me. I am on a high prednisone dosage now, which is causing my heart to race, along with the anxiety that I am having. Don't need anything else to work on my heart. Not to mention I have high blood pressure. Good grief.

The only difference between the two chemcially is this...

Think about your hands. They're exactly the same but also exact opposites, right? So your lefthand glove won't fit onto your right hand. Well Celexa's active molecule is just like your hands. Half of the molecules are shaped in one direction, and the other half in the other direction. Now picture all the receptors in your brain that it's supposed to bind up with as all left gloves. It's the extra right hands floating around in your system that causes some of the side effects of Celexa.

With Lexapro they took the active molecule in Celexa and got rid of the "right hands." So one, yes it's more potent. A lower dosage will do just as well as a higher dosage of Celexa. But there's also nothing left of the active molecule to cause side effects. There's still a risk of some, but much less than with Celexa.

They are both ssri's and I have been on both and I am currently on Lexapro which has worked well for me but every one is different. The max dose of Celexa is 60mg and Lexapro is 20mg, Lexapro is the strongest of all the ssri's.

Thank you for the explanation Hibee. I have never taken either, so I don't know much about them. I take pristiq and it works well for me.

Thank you. The dr said it would be fine. I would have paid for the lexapro. I filled the celexa and it cost less tha 5 dollars. The lexapro was going to cost 145. Hope I don't suffet to many side effects. I am hopeful and looking forward to better days.

I sure do hope that the celexa works for you, if it doesn't there are sites that can help you pay for your meds. Such as needymeds.com. Often the manufacturer will help you too. So if the celexa doesn't help you, don'[t lose hope.

Thank you Karen I will write that down. Anything has to be better than this. Depression is hard work. Just sucks the strength right out of you.

Fighting depression is hard work. And that is the only way that we can get past it. We have to stay on top of it but at the same time, take each day as it comes. That is hard to do. But it can be done. I have found that meditation helps me a lot. You have to practice it, but it does bring us calmness and peace. An inner peace that I don't think we can get any other way.

It also doe deplete your energy. Makes you want to sleep all the time. Between fibromyalgia and depression, I was in bed for almost two years. It was horrible. I can never get that time back either and that is depressing in itself. But we all are getting there, one step at a time. I hope that you have a good evening. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

I've taken both, Citalopram 60 mg now. Ithink that's generic Celexa, not too sure.

I had sexual side effects with Celexa where I couldn't ejaculate, but it passed after two weeks. It can also make you really tired, but that too has stopped, at least for me.

I would just try one and see how it works for you.

Thanks Steelcody. I'm doing the generic too. Its only been 2 days but it seems as if my chest doesn't feel as tight. I haven't had the all day, knock me down sadness either. Still cry but not that uncontrollable way I've been trying to fight off for months. Perhaps its mind over matter. Because I really want to get better.

Thanks Jamiee. I am so tired so this progress is much desired. Feels like my thoughts are settling down. They were really racing. Still teary, but not out of control. Trying my best. No noticeable side effects yet.

Well as things would go, today I am feeling shakey, my heart is racing and I've been crying off and on. And when I'm not crying I want to. On the bright side I think I made 1 step forward and only a half backwards rather than two. Will continue to let the medicine take into full effect. I go back to the dr on the 29th because she didn't want me to go longer than that without talking to someone. I hope the dr she is referring me to for therapy is available. She will let me know on the 29th. Thanks again for all of your support.
