Hi Guys.  I have been quiet lately as I have lots going on and I'm not able to share it online at the moment.  But, I would like to say I am really bumbed out right now.  Hurricane Irene was quite humbling when we lost power for almost a week.  Now, like an infinite number of others here in the NOrtheast I'm once again sitting in the dark.  rolleyes    And who knows for how long this time!

Just wante to say hello.  Its rather quiet and lonely at the moment.  Hope you're all doing well.

Hi Cass,

I am so sorry you are without power. That is always a bummer. My friend was without power for a whole day. I hope yours isn't out that long. You don't realize how much you miss it until it is gone. We have a well, so when our power is out, we are without water too. It is never fun.

I hope that you get some electric soon and that you don't have to sit in the dark too long.

I hope that you feel better soon too.

Hi, Cass, I've wondered where you were. I thought perhaps you were just so busy with your substitute teaching that you had gone into permanent teaching. Had no idea the weather has gotten to you folks again. I am sorry about that.

I guess it's time to wear the goose down coats inside until this passes by you! I know too well what it's like and hope we don't have that here.  Saying a prayer now that you get your power back today.

hi It's Genetic and Karen:  Unfortunately, I think we're going to be without electricity most of the week.  Im sitting here with an oil lamp and have my fireplace going -- trying to keep some chill away.

Where I work is about 1 hour away (on Mondays and Tuesdays) and they have electricity and school tomorrow.  So grubby me is going in with all my electronics to charge while I'm there. (Yes, I'm on a well too, Karen)

I'm sorry i haven't been around much.  As Karen knows I have had a lot of financial issues and legal problems because of it.  My alimoney is also running out as well in 2 weeks.  I have bit the bullet and am doing something drastic to try to survive.  I can't go into detail here online, but it has kept me extremely busy and will for at least another 2 weeks.  There will be many legal consequences from it but it has become a necessity.  So, if you don't mind I could use some special thoughts as I'm really going to need them.

Sorry to be so vague, but I miss you all.  Also, I have had a temp job on Wednseday-Friday and some Saturdays too, so I have been totally exhausted lately.  I probably only have it for 2-3 more weeks so I am trying to work and earn as much as I can right now.

Hi Cass,

My thoughts and prayers are both with you at this time. Sounds a little overwhelming at this point. Cass I hope everything works out. Whatever it is. I pray it works out for you. KNow that we are all here rooting you on. But know you will come out on top of whatever it is. And you will be happier and better off when it is over. I have faith that this thing will work out for you.

I understand that you have to be vague, there are just somethings that are better kept unsaid. for the moment anyway. I took my ambien and instead of going to bed, I came here to shut down the puter. Come online instead and now my ambien is kicking in, so I better go to bed. I don't even know if I should delete this post. I think it is okay. I hope it makes sense.

Cass - I hope everything works out for you, and that you are safe throughout all of this. Whenever I get unbearably cold I try to work out a bit, even just 5-10 minutes, to get my blood flowing. I hope you regain power soon. Are you working through an employment agency, or did you find that temp job on your own? The employment agencies by me are helpful to find quick work and the pay is several dollars above minimum for most jobs. Of course, even that's hard to live on. I wish you the best. Keep in touch.


Karen - Lol, I do that sometimes, taking my Ambien and then coming online and writing posts that don't make a whole lot of sense in the morning. I like the feeling though. It takes my mind off of things. I'm waiting for mine to kick in at the moment.

Dear Cass

We do what we have to..just stay safe and whole-don't sell your soul!! I hope your power comes backon sooner...I live in Mississippi and we lose power in the summer ALOT, but not for long (on a well too-lol) Katrina, of course, it was off on our street for 3 months...stinking noisy generators...but they are godsend...

Hope you have a little water to wash face and teeth and do a little freshening up at work-what a MOnday

We had a fire in May and had to use a generator for four days. My husband hated the sound but I loved it because I knew it was giving us power.

They are a Godsend sometimes. But Gas was high so it was costing us a fortune. But what do ya do?

Just a little FYI.

If you have a truck stop anywhere near where you live you can go there and grab a shower, assuming it still has power. It will cost you between $7 and $10 and I advised wearing a pair of flip flops in the shower, but it is cheaper than a motel room and beats the heck out of going grimy for days on end.

All you need to do is go to the counter where the truck drivers pay for their fuel at and tell them you want a shower. The truck stop will care less if you are a trucker or not. Just be considerate and get in and out as soon as possible as the truck drivers who wish to use the shower facilities are on a schedule.

Sorry about your power Cass. We are here for you. Glad you have the two temp jobs to bring in money and to keep you occupied. You have to do what you have to do to survive sometimes

Hello Cass,
I'm pretty new here but also from the north east. Luckily we only lost power for a few hours but got some snow and a lot of schools were cancelled. My son is home today 13 and is bi-polar and mildly autistic. I was wondering what I was going to do with him today since I was having a slow morning. We already spent hours in the snow yesterday and its halloween so wanted to save up the energy for this evenings activities. He is so excited for the trick or treating with a group of people I think its driving him crazy.
I hope you get your power back soon. Its crazy living in the North East you never know what you're going to get in terms of weather. I can't remember a Halloween with snow on the ground.

I am from MI cookie, and I just let my dog outside and noticed how beautirul it is today. I have walked once already. I hope it is nice for the trick or treaters tonight.

As you explain your situation, I can picture it. You must be excited for your son for tonight. Do you go with him, or does he go with a group of other kids? Take the day slow so you have energy for tonight. I hope that your snow melts so that the fun tonight doesn't have a damper on it from the weather.

Cass, I hope that you get your power soon if you haven't already.  It is so hard going without.  Too quiet for me...

Hi Karen,
Due to the snow and power outages trick or treating has been postponed in the town we were going to. Our friends still have no power. Ben is so bummed out. I am too since I was looking forward to an evening with fun people. It always lifts me up when I'm with good people. Not sure what we will do now since Ben didn't make plans with any neighborhood kids. There was a get together in the neighborhood but he didn't want to go. I'm feeling kind of lost and not sure how to salvage halloween. He gets so upset and sad when something like this changes. Usually I could come up with an alternate plan but my brain is not 100% these days if you know what I mean. I wasn't looking forward to making dinner either. I will push myself to the store unless my husband will stop on the way home. We have the candy to hand out so hopefully Ben will be happy to do that.

Ohhhhh I'm sorry cookie...I know you were both psyched!!!! It is so hard when they get disappointed like that....maybe trick or treaters will keep him busy maybe something he really likes for dinner, pizza or breakfast or whatever. Get dressed up...try to look at it as an opportunity to teach him how to cope w/ change. That it is not always bad. Even when it sux-lol

Is there anyway that he can still go to the party? Maybe that would work out. I am sorry that halloween got changed. But he will have fun tomorrow, or whenever it is. Change is tough for all of us. Even the big kids like me. lol...

Yes, did you get to freshen up? My sister had to drive from Boston to NYC on Sunday and it took 4 times longer than usual with 4wd...I hope your power is back soon!!

Hi Everyone. Gee, i was so amazed and happy at the time to see I had 17 replies. Very unexpected but it feels good to be thought of -- so thank you!

Unfortunately, our power is still not on. I think we are in the 30% that is still left and waiting. I went to a friends house tonight for a hot shower (thank you to the poster who had the truck driving idea...I never would have thought of that!). Also, the town high school is open for people to take showers at too. So at least when I go to work tomorrow morning i wont be grubby again.

My younger daughter is sleeping over the friends house that I took the shower at. My older daughter is home with me. We are each wearing about 4 layers of clothes and are under 6-8 blankets. It actually doesn't feel too bad. Also, I have a gas stove, so I got that started and we had an exciting meal of fried eggs. It was warm and we ate by flashlight over the stove. Felt almost like camping!

School has been cancelled again for tomorrow. Between Hurricane Irene and this snow storm I think the kids will probably lose their spring vacation.

In answer to a previous post, my Monday and Tuesdays are a permanent teaching job but if I don't work I don't get paid. The temp job is a consulting job I have done for an agency over the past ten years. When they need help they call and i'm more than happy to go in. I get a decent salary and they don't have to pay extra to a temp agency so it works out well for both of us.

I have been really stressed lately and tomorrow Im going to see how much it will cost me to talk to a lawyer. I already went through my free sessions, but now that things are happening I know I need some major help.

Thank you everyone for caring and making me feel better tonight. i think I'l be warm enough to sleep with all these layers and the temperature is supposed to get a little warmer over the next few days.

I guess Ill talk to you later. I also took my Xanax a few minutes ago and I feel it kicking in now. I better log off while I'm making a little bit of sense.

I just heard it might be "weeks" before some folks get back elec.-truly hope you aren't in that group. Glad you have place to clean up-it makes a difference.
