lamictal and wellbutrin

I am on 50 mg of Lamictal (titrating up....on my 29th day) and just started wellbutrin xl 150mg.  I have been so depressed for the last few months trying to find the right "cocktail" after going off of Luvox (which I was on for 10 years).  I'm so sick of being depressed and feeling like life has no meaning and am desperate for this to work.  Has anyone ever been on this combination, and how long does it take to work?

Hi Kit1922,

Welcome to the forum. I am glad that you have joined us. It could take your welbutrin a good six to eight weeks to reach it's full potential. But you may start feeling better before that. Welbutrin seemed to work fast for me. It was just that I needed a high dose to help my depression and that high dose made me nervous. Though that might not happen to you.

Is lamictal a mood stabilizer? I take abilify. Also pristiq and xanax. It has been a good combination for me. I hope that the welbutrin and lamictal work well for you. Did the Luvox fizzle out on you? Is that why you stopped it.

Yes the Luvox seemed to fizzle out on me, but I have never felt as bad as I do now and am wondering if I should just go back on it (luvox) at this point.  I initially tried Abilify with Wellbutrin, but it made me so sick that I had to stop it.....and the abilify isn't covered by my insurance so I can't afford it.  I refuse to go on anything at this point that has a weight gain risk, so my choices are limited.  I am barely making it through my days and I'm starting to wonder if anything will work.

I hope that the lamictal and the welbutrin are a good combo for you. Yes abilify is expensive. I have insurance and the co-pay is very high. But my doc writes my script for twice the milligram so I cut them in two and they last me two months. I really appreciate that. I could never afford it any other way. Also they give me some samples to help me. My insurance company wanted me to switch but the doc said no. I have felt good for a couple of years now. Which is great. I hope that your meds work for you as well.

Well, I have taken 75 mg of zoloft for about 4 years now for anxiety. I then was given lamictal when I went to the hospital because I had a bout of major depression. That was about 2 years ago. This combination has been working well for me. I feel like the lamictal kicked in pretty quickly.

I hope it works out for you. I would give it some time.

Forgot to add that I was started on 50 mg of lamictal with the 75 mg of zoloft. Now I am down to 25 mg of lamictal with the same dosage for zoloft.
