Lexapro 5mg

Is anyone here on a dose of 5mg Lexapro?   I started on 10mg but found the side effects very difficult to deal with, so I reduced to 5mg.  With 5mg, I have no side effects. 

The problem is I am not sure 5mg is sufficient.  Mostly, I take this for anxiety.  I was doing much better, so I thought all was well.  But last couple of days I have had a setback, which made me wonder whether I need increased dose.  But I do not want to increase to 10mg unless I really have to because of the side effects and also because I would prefer to take less medication than more.

Anyone find that 5mg is sufficient?

Most side effects are only temporary. I am on Celexa. Used to be on Lexapro though. But seriously, you should talk to your doctor about this one.

Could the setback be situational? Is there anything going on that could of caused it? I hope you get it sorted out.

I think setback was triggered by my reading a newspaper article about a subject that is if great concern to me and causes me anxiety. It made me focus on that subject a bit obsessively and worry about it, etc. I did not think I was so fragile that a newspaper article would set me off. But I guess I was wrong.

I just kind of had that happen to me too. Something set me off. But I got it under control by distracting myself. It worked. I can contol my moods. It isn't easy though. I hope that you feel better soon.

I was on 10mg of Lexapro and felt good for a week and then there was some setback and now I am feeling anxious again.

Hey Maggie. Sorry you are feeling anxious again. How long have you been on the Lexapro? I kind of had a setback too and am feeling more anxiety, but I am trying hard not to despair about it, and to focus on other things. Ain't so easy, but I am trying. I am on 5mg Lex, as I mentioned. I think my doc may want me to increase dose, but I don't want to.

I was on Lex for only two weeks now. And I might have felt good for a week and and then it went down. I think mine will have to be increased. Or probably go on another one. I think you should increase yours too. By now you might not have any side effects.

You are right I might not have any side effects if I increased the dose. But then again I might. And the side effects that I had when I first started on Lexapro made it very difficult for me to function. Also, my doctor estimates that I will be on Lexapro for only 3 to 6 months (which sounds good to me; I really do not want this to be a long-term thing), and I am thinking that the lower the dose I am on, the easier with "coming off it" will be.

Of course, I need to balance all this against keeping my anxiety in control.

Have you thought about adding something for anxiety such as xanax? This might be what you need along with the low dose of lexapro.

I am on Atenolol (25mg q.h.s.), in addition to the Lex. This is supposed to help with anxiety. (Atenolol is a beta blocker, but used off label for axniety). I do have a xanax prescription, but I save that for the worst times. I don't want to get into a xanax habbit.

I take atenolol too. It helps with my blood pressure. I also take xanax. If you need it, take it. It isn't a bad medication. I use to take 4 mg a day. Now I take 1 1/2. So it wasn't addicting for me, though I did decrease slowly. But xanax is so good for anxiety. I take it as needed. Sometimes I only take two a day. Which is one milligram.
