Try clearing out your internet history and cookies, that should clear up some of you slowness.

Having a rough day today. Brother sent "I love you" message via Face Book yesterday. I did not answer. I have been shunned from the family by him since July 2011 because I disclosed abuse by 3 family members, both parents and our older sister.

Don't understand why every few months he feels the need to send these messages when he is the one choosing to shun me. I will not stand up and say I was wrong and I am a drug addict and insane. Which is my only choice according to him if I want contact with the family. I know he is in denial, he was abused also. He is only 1 1/2 older than I am. I am 51 and I don't have the time left in my life for this crap.

Just had to vent a little. Thanks for listening.

BNot... Sorry for your problems, but glad you had this place to vent. I know others will have words of wisdom for you.

Thanks for suggestion about clearing memory. Took your advice, I'm sure that will help (some). Now, can you tackle my 'hard disc failure is iminent' ? ~ Joyce

I wonder if a memory chip would help you. I did that on my old computer and it was running really fast afterwards. I can't remember what they were called at this moment. If I do, I will post it. But it was about 50.00 and it did a lot of good on my computer. I had to move the current one I was using into another slot and put the new one in the old ones place. It is cheaper than buying a new one.

I am sorry that your brother does that. It is probably his way of saying that he has tried to keep you in the family. But you know what happened and if you choose not to have contact with them, that is your right. I know it is hard. And one day he will see it for what it is and was. But until then he will be in denial. Just keep going along one day to the next. You are doing good actually, but we stumble once in awhile on crap.

Keep posting, and I am glad you came here to vent.

OOOH! Joyce you have got yourself a worm or virus of some kind.

If you do not have Norton protection. [it is the best 60.00 a year] I recommend downloading that and let it run a scan and clear.

If your computer is over 5-8 years old, time for a new one anyway. you can get a servicable one at Best Buy for around $500.00 just to doodle around with. Not too many bells and whistles.

Do not ever use Mcafee Security in the future, it slows the computers and does not caputure all the bugs!

That is the extent of knowledge hope it helps some!

Just a quick note...I'm off to bed, believe it or not...absolutely exhausted. Did a lot of mulching in the garden today. Another truck load coming in the morning.

Bnot...I do have Norton, always have...which reminds me, this year will be 'up' Sept. 10th....and no virus that they've found. Yes, the computer is old. It's patch, patch with us oldtimers. Just you wait, you guys!
The clearing history this morning did seem to help.

Karen, I'll look into the RAM. Appreciate the info.

Courtney, get better soon...you're sure it's not West Nile virus, I hope.

A person can change the ram chip by themselves. It was hard to get our hands in there though. But my husband did it. Not all computers are built the same. But we changed it in the hard drive tower. The front came right off. I had an hp intell I think. I have hp touchsmart now and it doesn't have a tower like the other one did. But if you don't know about computers and know somebody who does, it would help in changing the chips around. It really wasn't that hard though. Just small access area.

Joyce, just thinking.  Have you defraged your computer lately?  I use to have to do that on mine.  I use AGV virus protection and it is free.
