Insomnia - trazadone or seroquel?

Which would be better for depression and insomnia. Already on prozac for depression. Would trazadone or seroquel be better, and which has less side effects?

Hi RAKW,

That is such a hard question to answer because meds react differently on different people. One person may get the side effects while the next one doesn't. So the only real way to tell is to try them seperately. My husband took trazadone for sleep, though it didn't really help him sleep a lot, I noticed he was in a much better mood. He takes ambien cr now.

There are members on this forum that do take seroquel, hopefully they will post to you about how it works for them.

I use Seroquel for sleep and it works very well for me. I do have 1 side effect though. It can make me light headed or unsteady on my feet. My doctor thinks it is in connection with me taking BP meds and maybe getting up too quick sometimes.

HI THE DRUG IS 'PRIMARILY' USED TO TREAT MANIA, PSYCHOSIS AND SLEEP DISTTRBANCE, IE INSOMNIA. I TAKE IT, AND HAVE SO, FOR SEVERE
INSOMNIA FOR MANY YRS NOW. I AM, OR HAVE BECOME MENTALLY ADDICTED TO IT, THUS I AN TAKING IT EVERY OTHER NIGHT. YEAH
STILL NOT SLEEPING, BUT I NEED TO RETRAIN MY BRAIN TO LEARN HOW
TO SLEEP ON IT'S OWN. I AM ALSO WEANING FROM A MASSIVE DOSE AS
WELL. I TOO USE TO HAVE THE SAME EFFECTS AS THE ABOVE POST.
WAS ON 1200MG, DOWN TO 900MG AND NOW 600MG EVERY ALTERNATE
NIGHT.

I take serqueol for sleep I was on 25 now on 50mg and helps me through a night and also helps with my panic attacks and sezuires due to stress.

Trazodone worked better for sleep, at least for me.  I'm on Seroquel now for anxiety, but it does help with the onset of sleep too.  Both are good meds, best of luck.  One side effect for me was that Trazodone worked too well for sleep...I would dose off a lot in the morning.
