Daily Check In Thread for all!!! #32...

Trying to make some changes in my life, changes which I have been trying to do for years. I am putting it out here so that way I have to take responsibility.

I know it sounds trite, but I am trying to give up playing games on facebook. I find that I become obsessed with them to the point of self harm. I have tendonitis in my right arm due to using a computer too much, my body hurts from sitting in the chair and I suspect it is not good for my eyes which may contribute to my headaches. I can't even sit and read as I find myself hopping up to see if perhaps a crop was ready or some other stupid thing with the game. I have been telling myself for years that these games are a waste of time, but I keep going back and playing them.

I think I lose myself in these games. Its like a drug. While focusing on them I do not have to pay attention to myself or my life. I want something different. I want to finish my novel. I want to work on making art for a show I have coming up this summer. I want to read. I want to be present in my own life. I want to decrease the pain which I find is somewhat self inflicted.

So, I am putting this out there to hold myself accountable. Time to focus on my life rather than on meaningless distractions.

I think avoidance is the defining factor of our lives in our society. We numb ourselves with TV, shopping, the internet, food, sex, drugs. I guess in the past people were so busy trying to stay alive, gathering food, working they had no time to lose themselves in useless activities. I sometimes miss the days when I was broke and had to struggle to pay the bills. I didn't have the luxury of self pity.

just updating that my neighbour is still in hospital but i have been advised that she is doing better. her son is coming down to relieve me of doggy duties and to take care of the house. me, i am okay, today i rest, tidying up can wait. i need a break!!! playing tunes at the moment. will lay down for a bit soon.

Oh Joyce, if you only knew how welcome that laugh was this morning! Thank you very much, I hope there is someone in your life that brings you joy!

I just have vent this morning. It really is not a big deal, although with everything else it feels like "lets give one more and see if she can stay balanced" type thing.

I have had hearing loss in left hear since 2009. It is now in the 90% range and the right ear is 25% loss. I need hearing aids. It from nerve damage. I think what knocked the wind out of me was the way the doctor, could not get it out fast enough that there was NOTHING they could do to stop or reverse the damage.

I know I can life a perfectly normal life until the aids stop working and then it still not be so bad, especially since reading is my choice or TV, but still, I am only 52 arrggghh. Just one more thing to deal with and Insurance does not cover the hearing aids to boot!

Found it...! 

A man realizes he needs to buy a hearing aid, but he is unwilling to spend

much money.

 

"How much do they run?" he asks the clerk.

"That depends," says the salesman. "They run from $2 to $2,000."

"Let's see the $2 model," the customer says.

 

The clerk puts the device around the man's neck. "You just stick this button in your ear and run this little string down to your pocket," he says.

 

"How does it work?" the customer asks.

"For $2, it doesn't work," the salesman replies. "But when people see it on you, they'll talk louder."

I am sorry your doctor was so insensitive. Sometimes they think they are superhuman and forget that they deal with humans. I try on a daily basis, from class to class, that I teach children and I have to watch my tone with them. Some days it is easier than others.

I am sorry about you and Joyce's hearing loss. My love and prayers to you both.

Joyce, here I am crying because of a bad day of depression and I read your last groaner- I laughed my bootie off!!!!! Too funny!

Hi UA- I am hanging in. Doc changed medicine a week ago and today I think it finally hit me. I have been so down and depressed and just yucky today. I am frustrated with the medicines- we've been working since last summer to find a "right" combination and we haven't quite found it yet. I so hope you are well. How is your father doing?

Karen- one more day of February (thank goodness!!!!!). I think I will have a "February is Over" party on Friday.
