I am a 23yr old male with plans of being a professional musician and a real estate agent. After a blood clot due to a watersports accident, tendon damage in the neck and a rib removal I lost all motivation and self esteem and it started to negatively effect my life. i was never the most motivated person before and can remember having horrible anxiety since I was young. That being said, I got put on to Lexapro by my Doc... After a few days I felt great but shortly after I started developing this new emptiness that I've never felt before. When I am by myself I start to panic and get paranoid and worry about things that are not relevant. I want so bad to be better and get my life straight with juggling these 2 hats of careers, but I fear that fear/anxiety it's self is holding me back. At this point I can't tell if I just have anxiety or anxiety and depression. I am on week 3 of taking this drug. Will this faze pass with Lexapro??? Any Help would be appreciated. This is the first time I have ever written on a form. Sorry for the rant

Don't apologize. you have valid reasons for your concern. It actually takes some people a significant amount time to find the right medication(s) that work with your body chemistry. Not every drug is going to work on the first try. Do you know if anyone in your family suffered from depression or other psychiatric issues? It helps to know this info and to also know the treatemtns that worked and failed as well. I would try t find out if anyone in your family has taken any psychiatric drugs and had success. If so, what were they and tell your doctor. It all has to do with genetics. BUT it's a helpful indicator of what may possibly be helpful.
Try to think back before you started the Lexapro... did you have bouts of anxiety, paranoia and the feeling of fear and emptiness that you mentioned? When you say emptiness, are you referring to being unable to tap into your creative music talent naturally? Almost like its difficult to get that creative side flowing? reason I ask - My cousin is a musician and struggles with not being as creative as she used to be. She describes it as feeling in a fog and "dull", unable to easily get inspired as she used to.
SHe suffers from BP depression and body dysmorphic d/o, so she's on some pretty harsh meds.
get a notebook make 2 columns - before lexapro /and/ taking lexapro. write down any and all differences that you've noticed... good or bad. when you are done making the list, you can view it clearly and possibly see that the symptoms you are having now, also happened prior to treatment, or maybe the severity of the anxiety and paranoia was not as severe when you were not taking the lexapro Regardless of what you notice, bring the list to your next appointment and show it to your doctor.. it's just another helpful tool that he/she can use to adjust your meds, or switch them ect.
By week 3, the drug is in your system if you are taking it as prescribed (which is very important). Don't skip a day, dont take dbl doses to try to relieve the anxiety. you will only make things worse. ALso, it helps to take your meds at the same time each day. The body will adjust more quickly .
I hope some of what I said helps you.
