Lexapro

Hi Tina!!

I take Lexapro. I have really benefited from it and have had minimal side affects. I think it interupts my sleep . . . but insomnia was something I dealt with before the anti-d's too, so I'm really not sure. Anyway it helps me feel like "ME" again.

I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes it can take your body a while to adjust . . . but if you don't have improvement from that zombie feeling, you should talk to your doctor.

I have been on Lexapro for just about 3 weeks. It seems to be working for me.
I hate to change med's but my celexa didn't seem to be helping my depression any more.

I didn't experience any side affects with lexapro except some insomnia . . . but I suffer insomnia anyway so I never know if it is the lexapro or me.

Most people take a couple weeks to get by the side affects that will go away. . . but your doc will probably have a better idea.

Thanks for your replies, and yes I am a hiker, having lived in Colorado for 30 years.  I was scheduled to do a hike today but the Lexapro has got me feeling weird physically so I cancelled.

My doctor assured me that these side effects would leave in 1-2 weeks.  I actually thought I felt a little better yesterday, not quite as spacey.  It's good to know there's relief ahead! 

This is a short term treatment plan for me because my depression has been brought on by the death of my wife 7 months ago and my therapist thought I needed something for 6-12 months.  I've never had depression in my life but this event took everything out of me...

Oh Chris, I'm sooo sorry,

Having been widowed with two small children, I can truly relate. All I can say is God laid his mighty hand on me and pulled me through it. I think I was motivated by the needs of my children.

Fast forward 28 years and I have celebrated my 26th anniversary to a man who is a gift from God. I never thought I would marry again . . . but I did and we now have four adult children and are recent empty nesters.

Even after all these years and a wonderful, loving husband . . . I have to say that I still think about my first husand almost every day. Its ok because I have a very special place in my heart just for him.

Please know that I am very sorry you are now in the widow/widower's club. You are in my thoughts and prayers Chris.

Running on Empty,.  boy do I understand your predicament.  My hubby is on meds.  We are self employed and pay cash for all apts and meds.  I would love to help you find generic inexpensive meds to try.  We have been playing the med game and up to 4 or 5 perscriptions at a time for him ranging from 11 bucks a month to over 450 per 30 day supply.  How long have you been depressed and do you have panic attacks or anxiety that goes with it.  My hubby does.  So he has meds for them all.  Good luck,  Wifey

Hi I ussually just check out the anxiety forum but latley ive been feeling blue, ive been on lexapro now for a month, and my mood swings are horrendus,one day on top of the world, next day cring jags, followed by the zombie mode,my poor coworker is never sure what to say to me anymore,and its getting her down, I feel really bad for her as whatever she says, could, set me up, and make me laugh,or make me angry, or cry, its so hard i have no control over my feelings its a day to day issue, ive tried explaining to her, but she thinks since im on meds i should be normal, but whats normal? and the worse thing ive found, is when she brings her 4yr daughter in to work and she annoys me i have these horrible images in my mind of really slapping her, i know thats a terrible thought but it comes to mind, have a docs app in 2 weeks where i will disscuss these issuses anyone else had them

I've been taking 10mg of Lexapro for about 6 months. I remember having a few mild side effects for the first couple weeks. It took about 6 weeks for it to have full effect. I usually post on the Crohn's page but have suffered from depression and anxiety for years. Tried a drug called Buspar several years ago which didn't seem work very well. I really like Lexapro, my anxiety is almost total under control and I'm not so depressed. Best of all I don't feel drugged all the time like Buspar. I can't really tell I even taking anything. The big test will be when I have surgery for my Crohn's here in about a month. I anxiety use to be so bad I couldn't hardly manage a blood test little lone surgery.

I'm new here and have been lurking about until now.  I just wanted to add that I have been on Lexapro since last October and have had nothing but good results and no side effects that I know of.  My shrink/counselor and I think that I have genetic tendencies toward low grade depression.  I have had three episodes in my life when I have hit the wall.  It is usually when 4 or 5 stressors gang up on me and it just becomes too much to handle.  The first time it happened was during the first year of my marriage (I won't go into the details) but after 3 months of trying to figure out what was going on, and thinking I must be dying, I ended up in an ER on a military base.  Well, let's just say that I was a low priority (if the military wanted  you to have a wife they would have issued you one, LOL) and I sat around in the ER while gunshot victims and victims of fights and training accidents whirled around me until a doctor was free to see me.  I married a wonderful man but we both had adjustment issues to deal with.  When I saw the doctor I told him everything.  He was very thoughtful and listened very carefully.  At the end he looked at me and said, "This is stress."  I literally went home, told my husband it was his problem (which it was) and that I could not fix it for him and he would have to get into some therapy and deal.  Bless his sweet heart, he did.  By that time I was a borderline agoraphobic, leaving the house was hard but I made myself.  I began an 8 year journey toward health (did pretty well too but with no assistance) and that was 24 years ago at a time when everyone thought you were nuts if you had depression.  I didn't even hear the word depression until that gang attacked again about 8 years ago.  I immediately got help, surrounded myself with professionals that I trust and life has been great. For me the key is having realistic expectations of myself, realizing no one is perfect and absolutely refusing to be in denial about any parts of my life.  I won't, I mean I WON'T let conflict run my life, and I know what is my responsibility and what loads I don't have to carry.   I know that it doesn't always turn out that way but hopefully a good story will inspire/give hope/renew commitments/give strength, whatever we need to support each other.  My ID is in honor of all of all the ladies here who are reaching out. Even if you don't feel strong right now, know that you are because you have taken first steps/refused to give up/share in the support of others.  Here's to you ladies.

 was put on lexapro for a month and had stop it very adruptly about 5 days ago because it was making me feel a 100 times worse everytime i took it . it also suppressed my apetite and gave me severe insomnia . the dose i was on was 10mg . the withdrawal symptoms are very severe which includes severe burning sensations all over your body , severe agitation and anxiety , suicidal thoughts and impulses , extreme fatigue , extreme pressure in your head , headaces , no apetite , feelings of terror , mood swings , crying spells , feelings of being detached , visual distrubances , panic attacks , severe aches and pains , dizziness , migraines and memory loss .

Lexapro seems to be everywhere! Is it just new or just highly effective? My doctor said that she liked it because even though there are side effects they seem to wear off pretty well. She said that it has a high effecacy rate. Since that time I have come to see that she really doesn't listen very well (wow, imagine that in a pdoc?) and I wonder if she has a group of drugs that she just likes and prescribes widely. She did say that if Lexapro gave me sexual side effects (it didn't) that we would talk about something different. Her something different was to take Ginko which did make me dizzy and fuzzy headed. Go figure.
