greetings and best wishes for a ciggie free year, I am 57 and picked up my first cig 6 years ago. Granted, I had had a REALLY bad day. I truly hated smoking and never had a desire before, but first hit and I was hooked. Problem is I still feel a bit like I am in the honeymoon stage. Want to quit, but the desire is just not strong enough. Need motivation

here for you lgtkegler. my suggestion is to maybe reduce a bit until you are ready to quit.

second go round for me in the past few months. i was smoking a 100 in sometimes 2 days. the cost to my lungs and health and my hip pocket as well. have had a bad time these last few days and i am screaming for one. but my health is very poor and i have some serious health concerns at the moment so i will push on without it.

You can only quit when you want to, that's the rub. For me, I just bought cheaper cigarettes when they started the sin-tax here in the USA. What got me is when my voice started getting deeper and more smokey. Coughing. That's when I decided to quit, in 1996 or thereabouts.

I started in college, when I had two reading/writing intensive classes in one semester. Since I had rehearsal every night, the only time to work was from 11 PM on. I had just lost 40 pounds, and wanted a way to NOT eat at 3 am. Coffee and cigs-great! I thought, "I can stop, when the semester is done." It took 8 years.

I am so proud of you, Turtle. It is hard to take a comforting thing away. But you are doing it for the right reasons. Stay strong.

thx guys. i really want one at the moment. been real unwell. see very sick thread. i am fighting on. thx for all of your support. and of-course i send all of mine to you guys as well. maybe off the radar a bit. need to get expletive sorted.

Yeah , I was just wondering how everyone was doing, too. No matter what I'm glad you guys are trying ! It's a great step to a healthier year and more money to spend on the important things (like this really cool Catch 22 anniversary edition).

i thought i would update and say that i still am not smoking. needless to say that i want one. the problem with one is that it will lead to another one then i will go and get a pack. expletive!!! i am still pushing but with all the medical going on i feel that i at least deserve one or 3-then a pack and then i am stuffed again. this is very tough. expletive, expletive!!!

sorry i have been away a bit. not well. especially with my breathing. i will update. it is time for my nicotine patch. am still screaming for one but i am pushing hard. still haven't smoked. so mux\ch stress. smoke calming but makes you more stressed i know. been smoking all my life. oh well just keep pushing. thanks for all of your support guys. it means so much.

You are doing good by not smoking. I hope to be right behind you. Can hardly smoke with this cough. It would be a good time to stop...
