I was having a good day yesterday and then about
1 or 2 pm I had a few brain zaps on the left side of the head and they were bad enough that I physically jump. I am not too worried about
them but was wondering if anyone else has had this happen while meds?

I have gotten the brain zaps before. I usually only get them if I have missed a dose or if I am weaning myself off a med. They are very annoying!

I use to get them on effexor once in awhile. Haven't had any on the pristiq. As long as it doesn't happen a lot, I wouldn't worry too much...
I think a lot of us have had them...

Yep, it is a norm. If it starts happening often, then it is time to bring it up to doctor.

Thank you everyone, like I said it was not something I worried over too much. Just wondering why it happens. Maybe a missed connection or something, silly brain. I ttyto take my meds around the same time, I notice that I was very tired and stressed that day too so that may have been the reason. I did call my pdoc and he said that my meds were fine and as long as they do not stay around and make it hard to do aanything then things are fine. It is the meds way of signaling the brain that it needs a break. So he said to not push when they happen, just take an ibuprofen and rest. Lol silly head of mine.

MsJD,
I been getting these zaps for 2wks now, everyday, all day long, since tapering off Cymbalta 30mg. They actually interfere with my sleep. They are so annoying!
You stated your Dr said, "It is the meds way of signaling the brain that it needs a break."
Can u elaborate?
If not taking the usual dose is what causes the zaps, then how can the meds tell the brain u need a break?
Im sorry, I just been sufferring with these noises in my head for years now and want to understand them better.
At first, it started as a swooshing sensation. As if waves of blood were gushing agaist my brain.
Now, my 9th day off Cymbalta, I have a constant hummm & ringingggg sound with the occassional zaps.

Carl,
Its nice to know that after 2-3 weeks, I should notice a decrease in the zaps/wooshing. Because the noise is driving me nuts. Its been so consistent that I honestly forgotten what SILENCE sounds like.
At least now I know, it WILL go away, eventually.

Lucy- when I say brain zaps I ment that the nerves in my body miss fire and my head has shooting pain in it. The brain has the rapid fire and when it fires too fast that is a brain zap. I am sorry that you are having a rough time coming off CYM. I hope that things get better for you Hun.

When I had zaps, I had the wooshing too. MissJD, if you are having shooting pain, I would talk to the doctor. Especially if it is happening a lot... I didn't have pain with the zaps, though I don't know, some might. Mine was more of a glitch...

Wow, that is horrible. I guess some of us get the pain and it is normal. Bummer, but glad it is normal and nothing to worry about
...
I use to be able to hear my eyes move, strange...

YES, Karen. Sometimes, I get ringing or buzzing, and I definitely hear the eyes move.
This is a separate issue, but I am so very dry. No matter how much I hydrate, eye drops, nasal spray, I feel my nasal passages and rear throat area scratching from the dryness. My sinuses throb, which affects my eyes and then my skull. I just found a prescript
ion sample nasal spray in the bathroom closet. I hope this will pass soon. Three weeks Tuesday.

These only happen once in a blue moon and my doc says its a miss fire in the brain and to rest my brain when it happens as this will help the neurons to rest and not miss fire. Thanks for the concern everyone.

Myself, I forget if you are in a cold climate. I get dry in the winter. We run a humidifier. And that helps a lot.
MissJD, I am glad it is not anything to worry about
. Thanks for explaining it.
Hugs you guys!!!

I am in DC Metro. It's cold enough!! More snow Sunday/Monday.
This dryness and sensitivity came on right after I started Wellbutrin. I have to think they are connected, or the wellbutrin interacting with something else I am taking. It is like my nasal passages/ back of the throat / sinuses are so dry they hurt and I can feel the breath hit the back of my throat. It all is so sensitive.
I steam in the bathroom. Some apnea machines have a built-in humidifying feature. It is almost worth getting it to be hooked up to your own personal humidifier.

I don't know why, but lemon in my water seems to help with a dry throat and mouth. It quenches better than plain water. So if you don't already do that, you might want to try. I use to have a netti pot. But barely used it, it flushes out the sinuses.
The wellbutrin could be very much doing it. Some medications do dry us out. I am not sure though... But if it seems that way to you, it most likely is.
I hope you find something to work. When I get a dry mouth, I often get a cold sore. I have to use a lot of lip balm and stuff.

Wow, when the swooshing in my head began, I used to think i was going crazy. It was so bad i started getting vertigo. At the time I didnt know it was 'drug' related, so I was told my migrains could be causing it.
When the zapping became an issue as well, I started researching withdrawal symptoms...and just as I suspected, in my case, Cymbalta was the culprit.
The zaps I feel arent painful. But they are loud, and the sensation is nauseating. They actually sound like sparks of electricity going off every 30 seconds. Intereferes with my sleep, big time! So Annoying!
But atleast after reading all these responses, I see I'm not going crazy.
Today is my 12th day off Cymbalta.

I used to get those zaps. I told the Dr it was like my brain was getting dis on nested for a second. They happened pretty frequently. I think I was on Lexapro, lithium , actually I can't remember. I have been on a little of everything it seems. I did not have zaps with Remeron or Wellbutrin. I did however gain quite a bit of weight with Remeron. It was really working along with the klonopin. But the weight gain was beginning to depress me again. Now doing Wellbutrin and the weight is coming off.
I hated the zaps but they did get better. Haven't had one in about
a year. Medicine management takes time to get the right mix. Keep trying.

Day 18 off Cymbalta 30mg.
The dizziness and nausea have subsided. But still have the vibrating zaps in my head. which worsen with stress, and causes my depression to resurface.

Stillme,
The first month i got treated back in 2008, I went from weighing 123lbs to 147lbs while taking Paxil for depression.
It wasn't until my Dr. tried the combination of Clonopin and Wellbutrin last summer that my appetite was back to normal. I now weight 122 lbs!
I checked these two online, and they do cause weight loss. Especially when used together. So give it some time. It might work for you as well.
I know how frustrating it is to not fit into any of your clothes. That alone pulls you deeper into depression. ....good luck!
