Migraines started with lexapro

Hey All...I've been on lexapro 10mg for four months now. Although I'm doing better with the depression and anxiety (not perfect though), I get some serious headaches about 15/30 days of each month. It's getting hard to deal with since I feel like my headaches really start spiraling me down to the pit again and I feel depressed all over again. My doc recommend topomax but I hate to take another medication everyday to offset the side offercts of the lexapro. I never had any migraines before starting lexapro so I can safely say it's due to the medication. I don't know if switching to another ssri would decrease them or am I wasting my time? I'm not stable enough to stop antid's yet either, so that's not an option. Any suggestions or similar stories?

Hey Carl good to hear from you again. I do use a dentist made dental mouth guard since I clench...have been using it for months now. It's really hard dealing with headaches 24/7 at least 15 days a month...I'm scared to try a different antidepressant since I feel like I'll go off the deep end again. However, starting a migraine medicine like topomax seems silly to me to offset the side effects of the lexapro...not to mention I hear this med turns you into a dope and the lexapro has done a number on my memory already!

There is a migraine medication, I think called ferocet. I may have spelled that wrong. You might want to look into it. I don't know anything about it, I just heard about it.

Yikes...I don't want anything that strong...I still need to function, work and care for my kids! I need something that just makes the migraines go away. I wonder if switching ssri's would help...I guess I'll never know unless I bite the bullet and try but I really don't want to spiral down in the transition process...I can't put my family through that again! Topomax is an anti-seizure med, which just the name scares me! I guess it's given in low doses for migraines in ssri use but I'm also reading there is a risk for seretonin syndrome as well in combining the two meds.

Topomax is also good for losing weight if you have a weight problem. I believe my friend takes the fioricet at night.

I wish you the best, migraines are no fun... I can't function at all if I get one.

I'm definitely not trying to lose weight...I'm still working on putting on the 20lbs I lost when my depression started back in August. Lexapro doesn't make me eat the house down or anything...but it's slowly bringing my appetite back. I'll ask about the fioricet today. Thanks.
