Sorry Wifey . . . I had hoped that the topic contained the initials ECT . . . but I went back 5 pages and couldn't find it.

Someone was fearful of having this treatment and someone else wrote back and said it wasn't bad and gave a web site that described what happens. The person who was fearful felt much better after reading the posted web site.

Try a Google search if you don't get any good replies here. And I hope you'll let us know how it goes.

I was the one that posted the link to the other website however I really don't know much about ECT. I'll see if I can find it (I don't remember the link)

You are so thoughtful to lookl for me.  We are taking our medical paperwork to a new doc; once again... meds not responding to the depression...so we are not leaving any stone un-turned and are seeking the advice of a specialist in Dallas that is familiar with ECT and VNT.  Seems severe but we are hopeful that God is guiding us.  I am also going to dig up information on CBT.  This is another ave. we have not traveled.  My hubby has been depressed we think since age 12.

It doesn't look like from your profile that either of you suffer from depression or anxiety?  My hubby has found a 'coctail' that helps him deal with the anxiety but we are ditchin' the Lexapro Monday and will be trying simbalta??...I am sure that my spelling is way off...we were told it is a new durg, don't know for sure.  Perhaps it will be enough to give him hope for a while; til we embark something else.  Pray this is not genetic and will not be passed to my children.  CBT may convince me that it is learned; then I am really screwed, huh?   Wifey

Hi wifey,
I have suffered from anxiety disorders as well as depression for almost 10 years. I have learned many things in those years about myself and how to help myself. The biggest help though has been therapy and HW has played a big part in that. Thanks for asking. I have been through the whole med trial thing and have been on Prozac, Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft, and Wellbutrin (I know I'm missing one LOL) and have only found relief with Prozac and Zoloft so the meds are a little tricky. I even had a really bad experience with Wellbutrin so I can't stress enough that you pay close attention to your hubby's behavior when starting his new med. I will pray for you and him.

dbab, thank you.   He has tried all the ones on your list and more.  He is 36 and we have been together for 16+ of that.  I almost feel his symptoms.  God help us...help us all. Wifey

Yes, I do suffer from depression. It has been under control for several years . . . but when I try to taper off my anti-d med I last about a month or two and eventually begin my downward spiral. I worked with a psychologist for a while and she was convinced that it is a chemical imbalance likely caused by chronic illness which can drain you mentally and physically.

I hope your hubby finds the right combination of therapy and meds. It usually requires both initially.

SC is right . . . you are such a caring wife!! Kudos!!!

I can only tell you what I experienced. I have NEVER had EST, however, I have been in rehab with others that have and my God they looked worse after it than before and were "zombie" like for a day after.

sad  Do you think they were destined to stay that way after treatment?  We are planning to look into it.  If you have any suggestions or hear of any thing ; please share it with me.  He seems to be unresponsive to meds for depression.  He can medicate the anxiety but the depression is still going strong.  We are reading on CBT as well.  Is that what rehab was focused on?  Ive  not experienced him being in rehab.  Back in his drug days he probably needed it for that; or do you mean for depression. ?  The VNS sounds scarry too.  and expensive.  How are you doing?
