Doxycycline After Effects?

Hi, I was given a 10-day course of Doxycycline to combat a sinus infection.

Didn't notice too many side effects at first, but as I got to the end, I got recurring bouts of depression/anxiety, not wanting to sleep, lack of appetite, lack of interest
in anything, and a few shots of facial flushing and heat each day.

I've been off the Doxy for nearly 10 days now, but the depression/anxiety and a few of the other sides are still with me, and its getting me concerned.

Even though I've shown my Doctor several of the websites that discuss this problem, he says that this can't exist, and he even prescribed me Ambien to help me get to sleep.

(Yeah, give me a drug that causes depression/anxiety when I'm having depression/anxiety. That's the ticket!)

Anybody have any experience in how long it takes for this stuff to go away???

I have heard of this happening before. I hope that it goes away for you. I hope others who have experienced this will post to you, as I have not. I hope that you feel better soon.

Still having some of this as of today (now over 2 weeks since off doxy).

Still having facial flushing (down to 1-per-day), insomnia (waking at 3am), no appetite. Starting to wonder if the depression side is me or not, but don't want to go there....

Doc says give it time.

Frustrating as can be. Never taking antibiotics again.

That's a little funny that he'd tell you those effects "don't exist," but then write you a prescription to deal with them!

I was on doxy for 4 weeks for Lyme disease. I've had problems with depression and anxiety most of my life, but I was doing very well this year until I got sick and had to take the doxy. I'm still on 3 other antibiotics, so I do believe they can affect you in those ways. I'm on Zoloft and Ambien - I want to wean off both and turn to herbal supplements. I would suggest giving it time and eating healthy and exercising before turning to Ambien, unless you really need it to get through work.

Discuss sulfite sensitivity with your doctor, please. Ask about molybdenum to relieve the symptoms of sulfite sensitivity for one time use. You may not be sensitivie to sulfur-related substances at all. Then again, you could be.

If you have a sensitivity to sulfites that can cause problems--Doxycycline evidently has sulfites in its composition, since they are listed on the drug site for Doxycycline.

Hope you and your doctor resolve it.

I've been on Doxy twice for Lyme disease.  First time took 60 days and was cured with minor post treatment symptoms, but was unfortunate enough to be exposed again.  My experience has been having bad depression and neurological side effects after taking the meds for about two week, but then it slowly subsides.  Asked my doctor about this, and he said as the doxy kills the lyme disease parasites, they release all of their toxins into your blood system causing those terrible side effects, not the doxy itself.  Not a fun disease or drug.

I was on doxy for 6 months for acne and stopped last month. It did wonders for my acne. I think I got more depressed than usual during the course and other than that, it had no other effects on me so I was lucky. But I am rather depressed because of acne anyway so I think the trade-off was almost balanced up. After doxy, I remained very depressed and I think it was partly due to doxy. You can try taking St John's Wort as a supplement everyday. It helps and it's naturally derived unlike clinical drugs and in some studies, it is shown to have the same effects.

I've start to taking Doxycycline (Doryx) nearly 2 month ago and in last month I was so down and depressed, this is as bad that I am seeing psychologist and I start to take antidepression medicine. My skin has been very good and crystal clear but it is not worth it. I can't concentrate on my study and normal life and no motivation for sport! since 3 days ago I just crying crying and crying ... till today I thought I can't find any reason why I am crying? I decided to search on my all medication I take so I saw this comment and got answer why! now Im waiting for my dermatologist return my call and replace the medicine. Also I got stomach ache and not sleep very well.
