I've had chronic depression for over 15 years. I've been on Wellbutrin now for over 2 years, and I'm slowly improving. Is it correct to assume the longer someone had depression the longer it takes to get well? Thanks.

I think so. I started wellbutrin a while ago. For a while it felt like the depression was battling the medication. My thoughts were in a loop. It was odd but it's cleared up now and I feel a lot better. Plus, you have to help yourself some, too.

What dose are you on? Maybe you need an increase.
Wellbutrin worked fast for me, but I needed a high dose and couldn't tolerate it.
I have learned here that everybody's experiences with medications is unique to them. We all react differently and have different side effects. Not to say that somebody else wont have the same as you. But if you are feeling better, that is a good thing.
Did you let the doctor know when you weren't improving? 2 years is a long time to just now be feeling better. But I guess that goes to show that patience helps a lot. You are seeing improvement so that is positive experience...
I hope you continue to feel better, but if you don't, talk to the doc about
an adjustment in your medications.
Hugs, Karen...

That seems like a high enough dose. Though I am not sure how high it goes. Like with Effexor, I was on the max, which at that time was 375 mg...
I sure hope that things get better. Keep posting, as it helps.

I never mentioned, but I also take lithium because I have had delusions. I take 900 mgs.

I am sure you are heading for better days ahead. I don't know a lot about
lithium. Except that I believe my mother took it at one time. Possibly my sister too. They both were bipolar which I am not I guess.
I hope you feel better soon, do keep posting as it does help.

Hi William,
Two years is a long time to have some improvement, but everyone is different.
I'm also on Wellbutrin, not sure how high a dosage can be given but last summer mine was increased to 175 twice a day, (2x 100mg and 2 x 75mg) not sure if the longer you've had depression the longer it takes to get well.
I have major depressive disorder since my late teens, a long time ago! for me an AD usually works really quickly.
Glad to hear you are feeling a difference, take care.

I take 300 xl, too. It never hurts to talk to your dr. Some people take wellbutrin in conjunction with another antidepressant. I don't know anything about
lithium but I'm sure you dr knows the interactions.

I was on wellbutrin for a few months before I was diagnosed with Bipolar type 2. The medication did more damage then good for me. Perhaps you've been on it too long and your body has a higher tolerance for the doesage?

I've been on Wellbutrin XL for almost a year at 450 mg per day. At first it seemed to help, but not anymore.
(I have read that the 450 is the max.)
My Dr seems unable to come up with an alternative, but surely there is something else we can try....

What about
adding a mood stabilizer Lynn? They can make the antidepressants work better for you. I take it in addition to my antidepressant. I take Abilify. It really helps a lot.
I hope you feel better soon Lynn.
