My husband takes trazadone and it works for him. Plus it keeps him in a good mood.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for comments, I am only going to take half a sleeping tablet tonight and see how that goes. The weird thing is that my actual GP wanted me to take Mirtazapine back in March but I decided to give Sertraline another try instead so if I do try Mirtazapine and it does work for me, then I will be be so annoyed with myself as I could have been better ages ago.

The thing with my sleep is I can sleep but I get restless legs and they gave me the sleeping tablets also to help me get to sleep when I had side effects everytime I started new anti-depressants so I kinda got used to them but something needs to give.

I have to see my consultant next Friday and I have private appointment booked with a good therapist up in London this coming Friday who I have seen before and he says he has helped many people with Depersonlization so fingers crossed.

Sounds like two good appointments!

I hear you about if you don't try something your doctor suggested a while ago, you'll always wonder...what if?

Are you feeling a bit of nip in the air across the pond? We're to have snow on Thursday (in Wyoming).

Hi Jan,

I have this horrible feeling that the lamictal could be making me feel worse as I feel the dp more intense since I upped the dose so I don't know what to do for the best, do I stay on it until next week to see if it starts working or not?

Actually weather in UK is quite good, can't believe you having snow already.

What tablets do you take Jan?

Well, it's probably best for you to stay with what you're on until you see your consultant on Friday, don't you think? Isn't that when you see him/her?

Some of my meds used to be similar to yours--120mg Cymbalta, an ocassional 1/4, 1/2, or whole clonezapam, and other than like yours, Trazodone at bedtime (200mgs) and hydrocodone as needed for pain. I also take vitamins, too. That's been my mainstay for quite some time!

Yes, we're having a bit earlier freeze than usual this year. Time to take care of the veggie garden!

Any gigs coming up, Sean?

Hey Jan,

Yes we are pretty much on the same meds as I take the same as you apart from the Trazpne and hydocodone. How long would you say it took for the Cymbalta to work for you? The thing is I started to feel good about a month ago on a Monday which was the same day I was prescribed the Lamictal 50 mg dose but I was starting to feel good before I even took it and then I had a good week, then a bad one, then a good one but now I have been feeling bad for 9 days and it feels like it is getting worse so I can't help but think it is the Lamictal perhaps making me feel this way but maybe it will be this way for a bit and then it will kick in and I will be okay......I just don't know anymore.

I have a gig on Saturday so I need to start feeling better then, I only took half a sleeping tablet last night but still feel terrible.

Hi Sean--

I felt a difference in a couple of days on Cymbalta, but maybe that's because I wanted to so badly! ;) maybe I wished it! Or maybe I was so relieved to finally be taking a med that I thought was gonna help me... Whatever the reason, it worked quickly.

I've combined a couple of headache meds with it, and they took away the good of the cymbalta, so they went bye/bye because I don't want to go back to how I used to feel emotionally. I know you can relate to that!

Hopefully you're leveling out. And Friday is very soon! :) good that you see your consultant before your gig.

Enjoy your day, Sean. Gingersnap (pooch) and I are going for a walk, and I need to finish covering/cutting veggies in the garden.

Sean- when I started Cymbalta in 2008, I started feeling a difference the first week. It of course took a full month or so to feel myself though. I loved it until I thought it was pooping out (now I wonder grr) & switched to Zoloft which was not good. That was in February. They tried to put me back on it after the Zoloft but it just didn't work. They took a few months trying to add things to it but I never felt improved.

That's when I was switched to Pristiq in June then Wellbutrin was added in July. That didn't help so in August they upped Pristiq to 100mg from 50mg & added Lamictal 25mg for 2 weeks and now 50mg Lamictal.

I too had a good 10 days then a few bad days then now I'm feeling better (fingers crossed). Staying busy had helped tremendously but I also had the motivation to stay busy bc I was feeling better (even tho I had a bad few days with the depersonsluzation), I still stayed on schedule and remained busy & social.

My nemesis is too much time on my hands which unfortunately I've had a lot of this year so now I'm making myself stay busy and looking for a part time job even tho I'm scared. I'm still going too.

Can you see your consultant before a week from friday? I know my psych has worked me in the same day when things were not good.

Trust me there is hope that you'll get through this. Another med tweak may need made &/or time. Whatever you do, just know this is not forever. You KNOW I know that it has felt like forever but it simply is not.

I prayed for us this morning. Keep praying and stay busy. And add me to your prayers too please x

Happy turtle - I am glad you are getting by but I hope one day you will be feeling wonderful instead.

Jan - Wow I am shocked they worked so quick for you, I am starting to think maybe cymbalta is not the med for me as I have been taking it nearly 2 months now and feel terrible but I think I feel worse because of the increase to 150 mg of Lamictal and need to wait for that to work maybe. I have gone from 50 mg to 150 mg in just over 4 weeks on Lamictal so perhaps that could be too much too soon but the consultant said it was okay as I did not have any reactions to it. Which headache meds did you use if you don't mind me asking? I used to take co-codamol 30/500 for quite a while but then I was worrying it was interacting with my meds so I stopped it about two months ago when I started cymbalta. I saw my pharmacist today and he said the Lamictal normally takes about two weeks to work once you hit right dose so I am praying big time. Hope you had a good day gardening :)

Karen - Hey Karen, today has been really rough, I stayed in bed most of the day and have hardly eaten but this afternoon I went to pharmacy to pick up medication and then went to see a friend but I started feeling really spaced out again so I came home. Are you okay?

Lisa - Did you feel any weirder when you upped the dose of Lamictal? I am convinced this is making me feel worse but I really want to persist with is because I hear such good things about it. I know if I don't feel better next Friday, my consultant will most likely switch me to yet another anti-depressant. Do you ever just feel like coming off every drug to see what you would feel like normally? I do sometimes but I think we have to accept that we have a chemical imbalance and need meds. Lately I have been feeling so disconnect with the world and my mind, like I try to think about things but it just does not seem natural if that makes sense? I keep thinking I will just shut down and forget how to do things too.

If I get through this then I plan to come and visit each and everyone one of you in the US to come and say thanks for being there :)

I believe that lamictal is a mood stabilizer and not an anti depressant.

I am doing good today Sean. Been staying busy. Made an apple pie today. That is a job for me, I make everything from scratch.

Hey Karen,

Can you send me some apple pie lol......yeah I know Lamictal was originally used for people with epilespy and then people with bi-polar to stable their mood but then they realised that it was useful for people with treatment resistant depression so they use it off label for that too.

Only been on 150 mg for 5 days so I just need to wait, wish I could just go to sleep and wake up when I am better :)

Sean- I've totally felt like going off if meds to get a clean slate during this 7 month trial. And YES to things not seeming natural when you try & think about them!!

I did not feel any side effects going to 50mg except some dizziness. I still have that a bit but the NP said it would go away.

Did you ever try Prozac Sean? Was that what you were on before Cymbalta?

Tell me exactly what meds you're taking now? I know of 120mg Cymbalta, 150mg Lamictal, benzo as needed & the sleeping tablet. (What's the name of the sleeping tablet)?

Do you have any other medical conditions besides the anxiety/depression/DP?

Hopefully one of these days soon you will. It is so difficult waiting for our meds to work. Or just to find out if they are going to work or not. It is a long, slow process.

I went through it about 20 years ago. Tried buspar, paxil, Zoloft, Prozac then Effexor. The Effexor worked. Then I was feeling so good, I didn't think I needed the Effexor. I went off cold turkey only to find out the reason I was feeling good was the Effexor. I went on serzone, then back to Effexor and I stayed there for probably 15 years. Now I am on the pristiq. So it is no walk in the park. I just hope that you start to feel good again. You know it is possible because you did for awhile. I hope that comes back...

Hey Lisa,

Zopiclone is the sleeping tablet I am taking and you got my other meds spot on. The consultant said last time that I could go up to 200 mg on Lamictal if needed but we need to wait to see if the 150 mg kicks in first which is understandable I guess. Thing is 200 mg is normally the max dose that they will give you for depression as anything more than that is reserved for people with bi-polar. The only problems I have health wise is depression/anxiety & depersonlization which I am hoping is an offset of the depression and anxiety and not a stand alone disorder. Prozac was the first med I ever took when I was 16 and it worked great but they tried it again not so long ago and it did not seem to work. I am running out of meds to take lol, how are you?

The waiting game sucks big time doesn't it, everyday seems like a year and you just feel like you are getting worse and worse. Pristiq is one I hear about a lot so I may look into that one, I am hoping I wont need to though and that the lamictal will kick in before I see the consultant a week on Friday. I never went of a med cold turkey but I remember missing a dose a few times and I got those brain zaps and the shakes which was enough to convince me not to come off lol

How are you feeling?

Not sure how I missed you post yesterday, but I'm here!

Hmm...you might be right about Cymbalta not being "the one" for you. Glad you have an appt this Friday.

Ask away--I can't think of too many questions that MIGHT even be "questionable." ;) Okay, headache meds:

Endocin: this was supposed to cover a bunch of types of headaches, but by the fourth day, my head hurt SO much worse, I stopped taking them (and let the doctor know).

Oxcarbazepine: this was the most effective, but it really took its toll on my mood, and made me start feeling like I did prior to taking Cymbalta (NOT good). Gradually went off it, and my neuro put me on ...

Topamax: still had headache and an awful taste in my mouth, and my dry mouth increased two-fold....so! I'm going off that one now.

I'll be at Cleveland Clinic soon. They'll call me tomorrow or Friday with an appointment date, and will be checking me out from head to toe!

Sorry for late reply, I been trying to keep busy today but somehow have picked up a cold but at least it takes my mind off the DP lol ......How is everyone today? I still feel crappy but I am still alive and sane somehow although the latter part is questionable lol

Happy Turtle are you in NZ? I will come visit you too :) Wow Jan so the normal stuff like Nurofen and paracetamol don't work for you then?

I have my appointment with the hypnotherapist this coming Friday and then I have appointment with consultant a week on Friday so fingers crossed the Lamictal start working by then so I don't have to change the anti-depressants but the way I feel right now makes me think otherwise. Oh well have to keep smiling as much as I can.

Sean- prior to the February panic attack that has led to this, were you on meds & if not, when had been the last time you'd been on them?

You mentioned a while back that you think you have a touch of borderline personality disorder. Did your Dr give you a questionnaire abt that to test you for it? If not, have you taken a test online to see how you score?

I was reading abt BPD & read it's often hard to treat but mood stabilizers & anti psychotics are the common treatments before AD use. I was just reading abt it and remembered you'd mentioned it before.

It's not something you just get as an adult from the brief reading I've done about it. Symptoms start in adolescence. I took the test online myself. I scored "unlikely" to have it.

I had a decent morning but have had some anxiety today. The gloomy weàther did not help my mood. I'm looking forward to going to bed tonight lol
