Everyone reacts to medication differently but side effects usually go away in 2 - 8 weeks. Usually sooner than later. Keep in mind that side effects will often resurface with dosage change and take another couple weeks to subside. It is really hard to predict though. Like I said, we all have different chemistry.

Are you taking it in the morning or at night? Sometimes switching the time when you take it really helps. Celexa would give me the worst vivid dreams and shorten my sleep cycle by a couple hours. I started taking it in the morning and it helped a lot.

I'm on paxil as well (8 weeks tomorrow). The first time I took paxil, it worked within a few weeks. But this time (17 years later), I still don't feel like myself. I'm a lot better, about 70-80% myself, but not all the way.

I'm on 30 mg currently, and don't want to go up if it's not necessary, but I have an apt next week and i'm thinking the dr will want to increase, because I don't feel much better than I did at the last appt.

My question to you is how long did it take until you were fully better? Was it pretty gradual?

well maybe there's still hope for me at the 30 mg. You were on 20 mg before that though, right? Did you reach that 80% I'm experiencing with the 20 mg?

I'm really happy that you are well. This is such a debilitating illness.

I was on 10 mg for a month ,than 20 for 2 months and than 30 for the last 6 months.Of those last 6 months on 30 mg only the last 3-4 months did i reach this feeling normal stability.It was all gradual ,some good days and some bad .My sleep is much better and i do not feel ( bearish) and staying away from people. I have a bad back and gerd.None of these compare to how we are when the depression is bad.Do not give up and give at least 8 weeks to make sure that it is not working.The only one i stopped taking after 7 weeks was Wellbutrin because i was going crazy with all this excess energy and could not sleep more than a couple of hours.I am not saying that Paxil is the one for you but give every drug a fair chance.There is one or a combination of medications that will work for you.

There is always hope. Nothing lasts forever. Hang in there. I'm doing the same.

It is so hard when we are depressed to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But things do get better. Just keep trying...There is a thread at the top of the page called "resources"... Check it out. There is a site to practice mindfulness. Called "mindful.org". Click on it or put it into your browser. It really does help in a gentle way. Practice mindfulness...

It keeps you from thinking so much. I also started a thread about over thinking. Sometimes we just got to let go... Live life the best way we can. Give up our worries about the past and the future and just live... You will be doing yourself a favor...

Hang in there with the medications. It sounds like they are going to work for you. It just takes some patience and time...

Well done, mindfulness itself, will help calm and relax you, so the medication can do its job!

I take medications, go to therapy, practice mindfulness and do meditation. All of this helps me to remain calm... Most of the time... Walking helps me a lot, as does exercise. Often I listen to music and dance... (when nobody is watching...)...

Practice staying in the moment and taking life one day at a time. Try to be patient with the medications. It is often subtle changes that we barely notice. But in the end, it all comes together.

Journaling helps put your thoughts down and relieves your mind. Group therapy is good for a lot of people, lets you know you aren't alone and helps you function around others. I think it will all come together for you. There are going to be bumps in the roads. Be prepared for that.
