Hi there, buspar is a type of antidepressant. I don't feel that they are addicting. But when you need them and stop taking them, you can have withdrawal effects. In my opinion, it could be just the chemical change in our brains or body.

To me depression can be controlled with medications. I feel I need them so I will take them daily. Probably for the rest of my life.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like it is really for anti anxiety and can be added to another antipressant? I am asking because I take Zoloft, and just increased to 100 mg. I have had a spike in anxiety due to a job offer, and the another spike when I increased the Zoloft. I have had to take Ativan several times which the Dr does not want me to take. I wonder if it would be a good combination.
Thank you for your help. Doctors don't always have the answers.

It helps to have something added to your antidepressant for anxiety. I took Xanax for years. Xanax is addicting I understand so I went off of it gradually. I didn't have any trouble.

I hope you find what works for you. There are a few different ones we can take, and if that doesn't work, we can try snri's. They are an antidepressant type medication that helps with anxiety.

Thank you. My main problem is anxiety. I have to give Zoloft a chance since I have been through so much already with medications. Do you think the snri's are better for anxiety? which?

I believe so, but not absolutely sure. There is Effexor, pristiq, (those are ones I have taken) and many more. I will find out what they are called and post it.

I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you could make an appointment with a psychiatrist? They know so much more about the antidepressants. I see one and a lot of us here do.

Hi Karen,
I have already been through a bunch of anti depressants, all of which gave me side effects. The only way you can see a psychiatrist here in Canada is if you go to the hospital and exaggerate your symptoms. Fortunately, I do have a gp that focuses on mental health. I see him quite regularly. It's just nice getting feedback from these forums a..from people that have gone through similar situations. I don't think most of these Dr's realize what the medications can do to you.

It is a very mild AD that is usually add to a 'Main Anti depressent" to help people with Major depressive disorder. That is, as far as I know.

A chat with the doc, can clear up any further questions you have.
