I've been depressed of 13 years and now I have to give up my Lorazepam and increase my Wellbutrin because I'm sick and in misery on top of my depression so by increasing my Wellbutrin I'm hoping to be able to cope with my misery better. I was given Gabapentin which I'm afraid of because I don't understand it but I will have to take it if I want to sleep. I've taken a small amount of Gabapentin and an hour later I took a Lorazepam but I won't be able to do that for long. Tonight I'm going to turn on my sound machine and see if that helps. Has anyone had trouble sleeping at night and what help you. I'm 68 years old and all I want is to be as pain free as possible which seems impossible thanks to the government and at peace and I'm hoping that the Wellbutrin can help.

You may want to try and seek talk therapy, to try and find a source for the depression. Drugs can have a nasty variety of side-effects, and some may even be messing up your brain more than helping.

I use meditation and controlled breathing. On normal nights I can fall asleep. If I have something strong on my mind though, I have a hard time not thinking about it. But meditation helps me a lot. And it is free and you don't need a prescription.

So sorry you're having issues with sleeping, lost soul. When we get older our body lose melatonin which is the hormone that helps us sleep.

Years ago, because I had a horrible time trying to fall asleep and staying asleep, I started taking melatonin and l-theanine. I also add a benedryl for my sinus issues and advil for pain.

I was tried on various sleep medications and they didn't work well for me. They also made me very tired the next day. Lack of sleep definitely affects our mood.

Lost soul,

I have trouble sleep from depression and PTSD.

Do have a script for abien, however most nights I use controlled breathing and listen to relaxing music with a timer on the radio or a cd player to go to sleep. Concentrating on the music and breath leaves no space from looping or negative thoughts.

Breathe in to the slow count of 3 1 2 3
hold
Breathe out to four 1 2 3 4 the longer exhale naturally calms your body down.

I used to need silence in order to sleep. Now, at age 55, I have a hard time falling asleep if it's quiet. I used to use a sound machine, sometimes just the fan running would be enough, these days I put a dvd in the player and fall asleep to 'reruns' of my favorite show. I already know how the episode ends, so I don't worry about 'missing the show'. Sometime later, I wake long enough to turn the dvd player and tv off.

the sleep maintenance insomnia is back, so I too am reverting back to insomnia. nothing is helping sadly. I have little kips. I can not have a routine due to sleep maintenance insomnia. incense is a good meditative component, and routine if it is not a sleep maintenance issue. healing thoughts. lights out an hour before bed and start winding down.

We shouldn't click on this link of his or hers, I'm not encouraging that. (I've always heard that we shouldn't click on every link we come across.) I wanted to bring it to your attention because he or she might try to sell us on something.

Just seems suspicious to me.

As for finding a 'cure' for insominia with in a month, I can only suggest good sleep hygene.
