Has anyone taken effexor?  My husband is now starting to take it  for depression.  Dr.  told him two to four weeks before he starts seeing a difference.  Just wondered how anyone else reacted to it.  I know everyone is different, but when you go to the website, reading all the side affects can be scary.

please tell me this will be worth it in the end...this is a thread in the anxiety panic forum about different views on effexor...
my experience is positive my wife has been on it now for a few months and has been the ebest she been for a long time it does take the 2 to 4 weeks to get the full effect

I have taken it and did not have any problems except sometimes I could tell if I missed a dose for several days. I am now off of it officially as of today. Hopefully things will go well off of it. I am on enough other meds. My pdoc is playing around with my meds as she feels I am on too many. I have been pretty lucky in not having too many side effects with the different meds I have taken or am taking. Good luck and let us know how things go.

I have taken it for some time with no noticable side affects. It has really helped me center my life and not have so high ups and so low downs. Good luck!

hi,

Not to burst the bubble, but I took Effexor and it made me almost catatonic. I couldn't feel anything, I could barely carry on a conversation. So just be on the lookout, ok?

Atthebeach- I was the one who started the thread on the anxiety forum. I have now been on Effexor for two weeks and it has really helped my anxiety symptoms. I am sleeping better too. I am very prone to side effects - I had some nausea and headaches at the beginning - went after a couple of days. I am now experiencing fatigue but hope that will wear off too. I have scared myself half to death reading the horror stories on the internet, but of course you don't hear about all the people who have been fine with it. I do wish you and your husband good luck. I know exactly what you are going through.

I was on Effexor for well over a year and I did very well on it, until it stopped working for me. Since then, I was put on Lexapro and it helps too. I had worked up to 300mg. My son is on 75 mg and he has had no problems either. It seems that the with the anti's peeps react so differently with them. Also, just because someone had a bad experience it does not mean that you will to. Hugs, Susie

I have been on Effexor ((my 3rd med, since the 1st 2 didnt work)) for over a year now and at first it helped alot, but now it doesnt help at all! i should prob go back to the doc and tell him, but i just dont care ne more. Good luck with it...i hope it helps ur hubby more than it helped me. *Krista*

I've been on Effexor for 6-8 years (can't remember exactly). It worked for me better than anything else, and I've tried about a dozen kinds of antidepressants over the years. However, in the past year or so it seemed to stop working, so my doc is having me try other things in combination with it.

The only side effect I saw with it was withdrawal symptoms if I skipped a couple of days. I'd get headaches, feel dazed and have occasional weird tingles. That only lasted a couple of days, however

These kinds of meds affect everyone differently, so you never know until you try. Do give it a couple of weeks to start having an effect, but don't be hesitant to tell your doctor if you don't like how it makes you feel.

I have depression as well as chronic pain.The Effexor has helped a lot with the depression.I just went up from 150 mgs.to 187.5 mgs.It comes in 75 and 37.5 mgs dosage hence the odd nember.My only current complaint is what I always seem to suffer with these medications-sexual problems.
I have issues of erectile dysfunction to begin with as I have had back surgery and diabetes so an added negative like antidepressent issues is no welcome addition.The Viagra and similar meds do help much.

Althought it is not a current concern,I've heard horror stories about withdrawal.I suppose I'll worry abouth that if and when....

Any feedback is always welcome

Someone in the IBS forum said they were taking Efflexor for depression and it completely cured their IBS.  Has anyone else experienced something like this becasue I also have problems with both.
