I am just curious if anyone here has ever used the anti-depressant Remeron (Mirtazapine)?
I had been taking a supplement called Same-E, which made me feel great, however, it didn't help me with some sleep problems I have had and was somewhat spendy compared to an antidepressant that my insurance would cover, so my dr. recomended Remeron. I haven't had any side effects like I did with wellbutrin, celexa, zoloft & effexor, except I feel hunger in the evenings. I tried those others and didn't give them 'time' to work as the dr. suggested. I just didn't feel like myself on any of them. Celexa & zoloft seemed to cause agitation with my moods. Wellbutrin made me drowsey and I couldn't consentrate on anything. Remeron is working great. I feel absolutely awesome now. I actually threw my 18 yr habit of smoking away (it's been 3 weeks)

I take Celexa in the morning and Remeron at night. I have started sleeping thru the night and it has helped me a lot.

I'm thinking of trying Remeron too because of it's dual reuptake properties. Have either of you had significant weight gain on this med?

My weight goes up and down because of Crohn's disease and being on and off prednisone. I don't think the Remeron caused me to gain any weight and I've been on it for 2 1/2 years. The benefit I get from finally being able to sleep would over rule a small weight gain for me.

Yes, I have had some weight gain (10lbs), as hunger is a side effect. I would start to get the munchies in the evening around the time the dose was due. However, now that I've been on it for 6 weeks the hunger effect has subsided and I feel great.

I have been on it for more than a year. I gained some weight at the first few months but droped to normal soon. The only benefit of this medicine is I no longer suffer from insomnia but I always have frequent ups and downs in my emotion.

Thats interesting Kathy. Did it help with the depression in the beginning? What milligram do you take now?

I'm taking 30mg per day. I reduced to 15mg per day without my doctor's permission, but it got worse...
At the beginning, I felt much better but now it seems it doesn't have that significant effect as it used to be...

I briefly took Remeron several years ago.  It was the 30mg solu-tabs and the doctor wanted me to cut them in half and take it at bedtime.  I remember that I took it and it fizzed up in my mouth and was gone and like just a few minutes later I couldnt even stand up.  My husband had to help me to bed I was so out of it.  I took it a few more times with the same result and finally called the doctor and told him and I didnt really like the effects of the med.  I also had a drug hang-over that lasted most of the next day and could hardly function at work.  But, my boyfriend who has Bipolar Disorder has been on Remeron for years and really likes it.  So this only does prove that everyone is differant.
