Wellbutrin and Effexor

I used to take Effexor 75mgs every day. I was miserable. I could not sleep. My doctor said that after being on the medicine for one month, I should be able to sleep because my body would be adjusted to it. WRONG!!!! After taking it for 6 weeks, he finally took me off of it. I was so happy. I have never taken Wellbutrin, but my husband has. His psychiatrist told him that 150mgs wasn't strong enough so he upped his to 300mgs. Talk about a different person. I thought I was living with a monster. He walked the floors all night long & couldn't sleep during the day. And I guess I should mention he was taking Effexor at the same time. Having discussed this problem with his regular pcp, he was taken off both meds and put on something milder and now he sleeps like a baby at night. I am taking celexa 20mgs @ bedtime for my depression. And I sleep all night with it. If I miss a day or two, I do not sleep.

I wish you good luck with your meds. I don't know how long you have been on your meds but if you still can't sleep after a month, you should discuss it with your doctor.

Hi atedogs,  I am taking 225 mg of Effexor XR and then I take Xanax PRN for anxiety.  I also take lunesta at bedtime and a whole bunch of other medical medications.....I wonder when I became an old person?   I can start my own pharmacy...Anyway, I am currently single so I cant really speak for the sexual side effects or anything like that.  Sorry....

Until a week ago, I was taking 300 mg of Wellbutrin and 37.5 of Effexor. The effex was really to help prevent migraines, so it was a tiny dose. I was pretty happy and stable on that for awhile, but got really grouchy if I missed a dose. And I've been having problems sleeping for a very long time, so I'm not sure if it was due to the Effex or the Wellbutrin or the combo or what. Regarding some other posts, the Effexor definitely caused some sexual problems, even at a small dose. I just posted a new topic about my experiences, but my neurologist took me off the effexor a week ago, b/c my headaches were worsening, and switched me to Topamax, an anti-epileptic/migraine-preventative. Now I'm having major problems that I'm not sure are related to discontinuing the Effexor, starting the topamax, or an interaction between the wellbutrin and topamax. What a mess. Hope you get some sleep!

I took Paxil 20 mgs and 100 mgs of wellbutrin to counter the sexual problems of the paxil. It worked like a charm for ,,i was shocked to be honest,,lol.   However most seratonine ssri's like paxil give me neuropathy in my legs and keep me from sleeping ,,plus wellbutrin is a stimulating a/d which does not work on seratonin but dopemine and norepinephrine. I couldn't sleep if my life depened on this cocktail but i but it was so effective in healing my moods and anxiety that the doctor gave me immovane/zopiclone to sleep on a regular basis and clonazepam for the restless leg syndrome and some agitation caused by being seratonin sensitive. This was the best mix i'd ever discovered in all my yrs of trials with meds. I hated to be on so many meds so right now i have been tapering off them all,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm could be the biggest mistake i've made in a long time!
