Switching from Paxil 40mg to Prozac 20mg

I was not doing great on Paxil 40mg, not seeming to help. So doc had me wean to 20mg and then start Prozac 20mg. Since the prozac I have felt terrible, brain zaps, light headed, dizzy, shakey, confusion, I was actually really good on the 20mg of Paxil. I have been on the Prozaz for about 5 days and I know it can take awhile, but I cannot stand it, can I go back to the Paxil or would I need to wean off the Prozac? I am miserable.

I don't know about Paxil as I was never on it. As for prozac, I'm on 40mg. Yes you may suffer some side effects but it will gradually lessen after a certain period of time. My doctor told me Luvox has less side effects and was prescribed with it before Prozac. But none of the antidepressants i've tried works for me.

Anyway, it has different effect on different person. So maybe you should give prozac a chance. Maybe at least two weeks? But if you really can't stand it, see your doctor. Sorry I'm not an expert in this. I suggest you see your doctor and talk about it. Good luck!

Hi Meg,  I am so sorry your feeling bad, I know that feeling and it is terrible.  It is actually the decreased level of serotonin in your brain due to the switch in antidepressants.  I would suggest you call your doctor and let them know how your feeling.  If you have weened from one (paxil) onto another (prozac) then you really shouldn't be getting this reaction.  It could be that they need to increase the Prozac dosage to get you over this hump.  So, dont wait another day...call your doc.  Let us know how your doing...K?  Take care ~ Elisha
