Trazodone??

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone else is or has been on trazodone. If so, how much? often? and did it help at all?
Thanks for the responses, as I am sure I will get a few.

In other news, I'm back at school, working and taking summer classes. Also doing volunteer tutoring and helping the honors college recruit some prospective students. Hopefully keeping busy will help the depression, it seems to have no effect on the anxiety. As for my insomnia, well, its still here but I think I may have gotten a little hold over it. Things in general seem to be going a little better. The two girls I live with are helping me a lot (though they don't really know it). I haven't decided whether to tell them that I am on medication and seeing counselors/doctors about depression and anxiety. If anyone has any advice on the matter I'd be more than happy to hear it.

Just a few things to mention that I forgot.

Trazodone's common brand name is Desyrel.

I am currently on 200mg of trazodone, which hasn't really been helping. It was prescribed partially for depression, but mostly for my insomnia. As is, I get about 4 hours (max) of sleep each night. This has been the case for around two months now.

I am on trazodone for sleeplessness, it is helping me alot! I m tired 20 min after taking the pill! (50mg tablet)

I take trazadone (100mg) when I need to plus I have a HOT milk to make it work faster and the hot milk itself has a natural ingredient in it that is activated when heated ........Trazadone is supposed to stop the "stinking thinking" that goes round and round in our ( my) head and for me it works .......so far.......Take care and God Bless...Lyn

I take Trazodone for prednisone-induced insomnia -- it seems to work pretty well for me. I've had to increase the dosage a couple of times, as it is a drug we build up a tolerance for. Right now I take enough to make most people sleep for 2 days....and I sometimes still have to add some xanax to keep my head from spinning aorund in thinking circles that keep me awake. :-)  Hi Dan, my name is Kris, about your trazadone. is that all your taking for your depression? I only ask because I take three different ones and like you had terrible insomnia. I tried the Lunesta. It did nothing. The Ambian was on  and off, but my medicaid didn't cover it , so that took care of that one. Thats when they gave me the trazadone only at nightime. It's one of the older anitdepressants but it also works well for insomnia. I Have 50 mg tabs, that I can take between one to three, it seems to be working so far. I hope this Info helps. I saw a hypnotherapist after suffering from insomnia for 3 years. It worked really well, I only needed to go once but after about 12 months my insomnia came back. I don't mind seeing someone once a year to fix that though.

Not sleeping can be torture can't it.

Hi there. I was given trazodone for insomnia - 100mg -- didn't work for me at all. Hopefully you will have better results!

Started Trazodone 3 days ago to help me sleep.....only taking 25mgs but it seems to work so far. I usually start to get drowsy about an hour or so later before I finally get to sleep....some daytime drowsiness but coffee helps with that. I'll give it a week, then maybe increase the dosage to 50mgs, maybe that will help me fall asleep faster.

Hey, I'm prescribed Trazadone for insomnia..I just haven't been taking it lately. I probably should seeing as it's 8 am and I still haven't slept! I was taking 50 to 100mg I think...it did help but only after I was very tired already.

My husband was on trazadone for sleep. It kept him in a really goood mood. He has since switched. I wish he would go back on it. But he takes ambien cr now. He slept good he said, so maybe that will help his mood.

Taking Trazodone 50mg nightly for 9 days now...works great, good sleep and no more daytime drowsiness.

I was told by Psychiatrist that as an anti-depressent they haven't seen it have much success, but most all Psych docs use it for isomnia before trying the meds like ambien b/c it isn't addictive, etc. The doses can range anywhere from 25mg to around 300mg. I have been on it several times, and it has helped with sleep a bit. But not all the time. Usually i have to increase it at least every month.

True....I started with 25mgs at first and now take 50-75mgs depending on how tired I feel before bed. For me, it has worked great allowing much deeper sleep which makes me feel rested the following day.

I love this med for insomnia.  I started at 100mg and increased it once to 150mg which I have been taking for at least 3 years now.  It never fails me unless there is a crisis going on.  Not worrying about being able to sleep is truly a blessing. I use it every night at bedtime with 15 mg of Buspar.

I've normally been taking 75mg at night, but after being a bit wound up last night I took 100mg....OMG, slept 7 solid hours straight through.....love this drug!

It is good to read that you are having good luck with the Trazodone :) I have been at the 150mg for a long time.  No matter how anxious I may be around bedtime I go to sleep without any problems.  I don't worry anymore about not being able to sleep and this is a plus side for me.
