Hi Nantz,
I hope you don't mind me "butting in" with your conversation with Els - but you said your depressed dh (does that mean divorced husband or depressed husband?) sorry..not sure what the dh stood for. Anyway, I hate to hear of people who are suffering because for some reason or another they are "against" drugs. Does he say specifically why he is against them? Did he have a bad experience with them? Did he hear it from a friend or the media who sometimes can be against drugs and can influence people? Does he think it would make him weak in character if he took a pill for depression and would rather stick it out? Many times this does not work. He might have clinical depression and if depression is not treated often times it gets worse. If it is situational depression, you may want to try to get him in some kind of counseling. There are many natural - over the counter supplements that someone can take for mild to moderate depression..not sure if they have this where you live, but you might want to check in to a very popular (and safe) OTC supplement for mood and well-being called SAM-e. I took it for three years (400mg once a day) and was depression free, and I have major depression. I have also heard very good things about
St. Johns Wort and Fish oil capsules (or fish oil (cod liver oil - lemon flavored) one teaspoon before e meal. I hate to see someone suffering with this awful disease, when they don't have to. I suffered for twenty years because I was too afraid of side effects. Now, I wish I would have gone on antidepressants sooner. I have had no side effects on the antidepressant I am on now.
