I need some encouragement, please

 

 Good morning, all.  I need some encouragement.  I have one job interview tomorrow, and then one on Monday.  I am very excited about the one on Monday.  The problem is that my confidence is somewhat lacking now, in between getting fired and going through a medication "poop out."  The thing is, I need a job to help me recover and to keep recovering. 

Also, one of my cats peed on my paralegal program application.

Hi zinniagirl, most defiantly bad cat!!  I was in a management position with mental health for several years and did the interviewing/hiring for the facilities that I took care of.  Companies look for different things in an employee when they interview for an open position but the process is as nerve racking for them as it is for the person they are interviewing.  Like you already know honesty in your background is important and go in there with confidence in yourself and what you have to offer.  I wish you much luck on your interviews...let us know how it goes

Yep, honesty is the best policy. I certainly have learned that, and I already have my speech prepared for when they ask me why I left my last job.

Just doing some much-needed cleaning here. Two of my cats are busily washing themselves, so maybe I have inspired them. Then again, they are naturally clean animals. I did not want to clean, just wanted to go back to bed, but I am gritting my teeth and making myself. I figure I can be just as depressed in a clean house as a dirty one.

I think I know who peed on my paralegal studies application, and he is next on the list for neutering. So long, tomcat...hello, housecat! Heh.

Well, back to the heavy duty cleaning. That vacuum cleaner is just calling out to me.

Hokay, I went on the interview, driving one and a half hours there, paid for my parking, made sure I was looking my best in my "positive thinking forward" rose-colored suit.

We discussed my firing, what happened, and what I learned from it. (I was fired from my last job two months ago for Internet abuse.) While I was being interviewed by the firm's administrator, the human resources assistant sat in. I felt like a piece of raw sewage under the microscope, she watched me so intently. At one point the administrator said to me, "Well, you certainly have been all over the place. And so why would you want to be a legal assistant?" I went into my spiel, but no one in that room seemed impressed.

Then they had me fill out a job application and provide references, which I did. The human resources assistant then took my application and references and said that "they'd be in touch if they felt there was a fit."

Subtext: No WAY are they going to hire someone who was fired for Internet abuse. All other things being equal, they will choose a candidate who does not have that "back story" following them.

I am so discouraged right now. I have another job interview on Monday, but now I am wondering if I should just cancel it. That is to say, I feel when it comes to the work world, I have just made one screw up after another -- whether it's getting fired, irritating my boss, or not making connections with the people at work who could help my career.

I do have the money (and obviously, the time) to go back to school full time to get my paralegal degree. It would only take a year. And then re-start my job search. I just don't know how much rejection I can take at this point.

Is there a support group for people who got fired for surfing the Internet?

I hate the way interviewers look at you. I had an interview back in December and I wasn't prepared for how stoney-faced and cold the interviewer would be, she seemed to look me up and down and turn her nose up at me...I ended up not really giving very impressive answers because she really unnerved me!

Good luck with your next interview, as ShynSassy said companies get so many applicants that you should feel really proud of yourself and your abilities for being picked for interview, because your applications must impress them.
