 Has anyone been on Lexapro? I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it has done for them? The doctor has switched me today from effexor xl to Lexapro. The effexor didn't help me at all.

Coming from paxil. Lexapro has worked very well for me, I'm taking it with buspar 30mg a day as well, within the first 72 hours I felt a big difference, having been off of it for almost a year. I have not noticed heavy side affects, well there is one, it takes a little longer to finish getting your groove on. tongue

I am hoping it helps me sleep, with anxiety and depression. And I also hope it helps me gain weight back.

I took lexapro before effexor. I have been taking effexor for the last 6 months and its helped me a lot. The lexapro didn't reallly do much for me. This just shows though how differently people respond to meds as we are the complete opposite!! Lexapro and effexor are both good meds for anxiety as well as depression. Lexapro works in a different way than effexor xr, it is the most “selective” of SSRIs. It also tends to cause less weight gain than the other SSRIs. Hope you will benefit from it.

Thank's for responding. I took just one pill so far and so far it seems like I have more of an appatite. I lost weight from stress and I hope to gaon it back. And feel better. So I was wondering if anyone gained weight on it. I was sleeping like an hour a night and I couldn't take it anymore. I hope it helps that also.

Lexapro changed my life for the better.  I was just about non-functional with anxiety and depression.   I cried several times a day, had no appetite and my body was dealing with a great deal of stress 24/7.  Lexapro ended all of that and I have not had any side effects.  I think it can be very difficult to find the right medication.  In my experience many medical doctors don't understand brain chemistry even if they take depression seriously.  I see a naturalpath that gave me a test called The Braverman Test.  The test is a measure of 4 different brain chemistry hormones and it comepletely nailed my personality based on brain chemistry. That helped my naturalpath to pinpoint the right med for my brain chemistry.  She knew whether I needed a saratonine med or an epinepherone med or a combination med.  I don't think The Braverman Test is very well known but I have not had to jump around meds at all and I enjoy a much better quality of life.  My concerns are still present but whatever life throws at me is manageable now.  It has been a good thing for me.

This Braverman test. How did they administer it? It wasn't a spinal tap or anything was it? And I was wondering if Lexapro helped you gain weight back? I don't know if I would get the Braverman Test I am just curious. Does medical insurance cover a naturalpath? I never heard of one before.

It is a questionaire.  There are about four pages of the most unlikely questions such as, "Do you read romance novels?" or "Would most people say that you are a very dominant person?"  None of them seem related at all.  The test measures what your dominant brain chemistry is and what your dominant deficiency is.  My doctor is very knowledgable about brain chemistry.  The difference between my medical doctor and my naturalpath is that while the medical doctor would ask for a specific test to look at a specific result, my naturalpath was able to look at all the results from the same test and see many issues.  It has been fabulous.  My insurance covers naturalpathic care, I can't say about anyone elses.

Are you saying that your naturalpath prescribed or recommened Lexapro?

Aren't they all about natural healing and herbal medications, or am I confusing that with something else.

It's great to hear that Lexapro has worked out so well for you.

My wife takes 20mg/day and it seems to be helping in conjunction with 450mg/day Wellbutrin.

I've done very well on Zoloft for eight years, but I know many people who have tried Lexapro and do extremely well on it. It is equally effective to the other SSRIs for depression.

Stay on it for at least three months to see how you do.

Hi Sloan

I was just taken off Lexapro and started Effexor XR this past Monday. For the same reason you need Lexapro is the reason I wanted off. I gained weight and slept too much. I did the same with Zoloft. Lexapro did help take the edge off of my depression and anxiety - but after awhile I got honest with myself and realized I needed something to work better. It's still real soon in the transition, but I'm reallying hoping that Effexor works for me. I hope Lexapro works for you.

I hope the effexor xr works for you. I don't feel it did anything for me but you know everybody is different. Were you on 10 or 20 mg of lexapro? I'm on 20 but I just started. I'd like to gain like 40 lbs. I want to sleep and sleep a lot and gain weight. Thanks

Hi, my husband just started taking lexapro this week. He had tried at least 3 others.

He suffers from anxiety disorder/panic attacks.

The nurse knew to give him this because she say the others deal with epinepherone, which would cause more anxiety and the lexapro deals with strictly serotonin. Funny how most doctors don't know this and the meds they give can make you worse. Hope it worls for you, hope it works for my husband, and glade to hear that it is working for others.

Has it been working for your husband or is it still too early to tell. I like it better than the effexor but I still am stressed. The ativan helps me more with sleep. Does he sleep more now?

Also has anyone's fingertips ever gotten numb from lexapro? Mine have been that way for at least 5 days now.

Hi Sloan, He says he definitely feels more calm in the day but is still struggling at night. He still needs to take ativan. I am hoping it will work for him that he feels good the whole day, it hasn't happened yet but he was also only taking 1/4 and I think now it's been 1/2 a pill, he's going to give it more time. He hasn't said anything about numbness, have you called your doctor? Hope it's nothing and hope the lexapro starts working for you.

I had to let you know that I asked my husband about the numbing fingertips and he said yes, but said it could be from the anxiety itself, which he's had this happen before.

Have you ever had numbing from anxiety? If you think it's the Lexapro, maybe look into it on the internet for side effects.

Denim, I have never had numbing before. It is only on my left hand. Does your husband get it on both hands or just one if you don't mind asking him. Last night I went to the emergency room because the numing and some breif chest pains made me call them and they said to come in. They checked and xrayed my heart and said it looks good. But in my bloodwork they said my kidneys aren't functioning properly. I looked up my medications and it looks like this can happen with lotrel which I'm on for blood pressure. And they said the protein powder and stuff I take could be the problem too. I have to cut down on the protein and drink a lot more water all the time. I see my doctor tuesday and I will explain it to him. I don't think it was mentioned that lexapro causes this. The doc in the ER said a lot of bodybuilers get this from too much protein. Looks like I will be hitting the bathroom more. Take care also. Thanks.

I'll have to ask him. You must have been scared. The chest pains and numbing I think come from my husband's anxiety attacks and not the medication. Glad you're ok and that you'll get to see your doctor. BTW, my husband is on atenonal(sp) for bp. What a pain, trying to get the drugs straight, I wish you well.

I will drink a lot of water and talk to my doctor. Next bloodtest I will post it and tell you guys how it was. I never heard of atenonal. I wish him well too.
