Good for you for getting prepared. Having been in a similar position many years ago (in the US) I can truthfully say that your best bet is to consult an attorney for advice. I don't know how Canadian law works, but many attorneys here in the States offer free consults in such situations. Usually it only takes 15 or 20 minutes of their time, and they don't bother billing for it in the hope that they'll eventually get the case when the time comes.
I have used FindLaw.com to research various legal issues, but it can be very cumbersome to comb through and find what you need. I'm not sure that the site even covers Canadian law. You might try to Google a similar site for that and see what you can find.
