right im not really good at writing things down but im finding it hard to talk to people i know, so maybe its easier to see what strangers think...

im not sure if im depressed, but for months now iv been feeling down, i started losing my hair (which has now stopped), crying for no reason, suffering headaches and back pain. my mood wasnt helped when i got involved with a guy who wasnt single but i was falling in love with him, then he decided to stop seeing me (which i knew would happen anyway...i make all the worng decisions)so since then ive been eating alot more than usual...and just reacently i couldnt careless if i died (i would never take my own life though as i couldnt put my mum through it) i am constantly staring into space, and i get irrertated easily. i dont talk to people about my problems as they either dont believe me or think im being stupid, im down alot cos of past problems but anyway....if anyone reads this i hope it makes sence!

Welcome to the board Kelz...I am very glad that you found us.
Your post makes alot of sense. And all of the symptons are a sign of depression. The only way to know for sure though is going to see a Doctor.
I know it is scary,and when you don't have support from family or friends that makes things worse.
When you see a Doctor for the first time,you will feel so relieved.
You have alot to live for,and I can tell you are a very strong person.

Please post as much as you need to ..you will find that there are alot of people on this site that have great advice and big hearts.

thanks for the sites and for replying, i will be booking an appointment with my doctor soon for a nother reason but i was thinking of talking to her about this too

Do it. Depression is a real illness, and like any illness, it needs to be treated. It will not just go away by itself.

iv booked the appointment now i just gotta figure out what to say....i feel even worse...the guy i had been seeing had an argument with me... said i was a mistake.....i just wanna get my life back...i wont always be the same but i just cant cope anymore :-(

You don't need someone around you that says you are a mistake. Sounds like he has his own problems and needs to cope with them. You don't need that at all.
As far as your appointment,you just need to tell them how you feel. Even if it sounds stupid to you,they will understand and they need to know everything so they can figure out how to treat you.

Kelz, Shy is right. You absolutely don't need someone in your life who would treat you that way. Just keep that appointment and tell the Doctor how you feel and what your symptoms are in terms of sleep, appetite, concentration, etc. Please let us know how your appointment went.

kelz_sm i found it difficult to talk to my dr the first time about everything that was worring me and what i had gone through i did only tell him some of it to start with but what i did was write it all down the things that were bothering me and i gave it to him to read in his own time and made another appointment for a couple of days to discuss it with him . This worked really well for me by the time i had my second appointment he knew what was the problem and i could then openly talk to him about some of it but some of the problems were out of his hands so he then referred me to see a psychologist and more recently a psycharist .Thats just one way i started to talk to him .It may help you i`m not sure.

ty, iv started keeping a diary.and i have a friend i used to talk to....i still sort of can talk to him but i got feelings for him so its harder.

i hope that everything is getting better for you

i went to the docs today...and he diagnosed stress and depression. he said about seeing a counceler, but could see i was uneasy about it...but he said to go back in a few weeks but he doesnt really want to put me on tablets as im only 19.

Hmmmm...I did not realize there was an age requirement for anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds. What kind of doctor did you see -- a general practitioner, a psychiatrist, a pediatrician? Might be worth getting a second opinion. I understand your uneasiness with counseling; I have felt that way myself. Then it gets to the point where I can't take the pain and desolation anymore, and then I go.

research into the effects of antidepressants has shown that they can actually exacerbate the depression, especially in children and teens.  several suicides in teens have been traced back to the use of antidepressants.  early findings from current research is showing that these drugs may cause the same problems in adults.

protocol now calls for close monitoring of patients who are taking these drugs, especially children and teens.

of couls these dire warnings are causing dire consequences because people, children, teens, and adults who really could benefit from the drugs are being denied access because of the medical ciommunity's anxiety about suicide on theirwatch and possible litigation.

there is no greater evil than an excess of good intentions.

i called my boss today and told him what the doctor said, hes gonna try and get me extra help at work till we get a new manager in place. so that should reduce the stress a bit :-) and he also agreed with the doctor that i sould go for counceling as he doesnt want me to depend on tablets....

Thanks, warren for the anti-depressant and teens info. I certainly did not know that.

kelz_sm, I am so glad you have a supportive and proactive boss. That is one big positive in your life right there. I am glad you are going to start counseling. It does help.

hey, i decided against the counceling, dont really like talking to councelers.......also iv had loads of work and could never really know when my next day off will be.

Really think about the counseling,you need to figure out what triggered the depression.

If at the very least pour your heart out here.
