Sometimes I feel like no matter how hard I try to overcome my negative thoughts and emotions there comes a point where I can't go any further without going backwards...I can have a fun night out, do something good for myself, have fun with a friend but in the end the real comfort comes from wallowing in some kind of negativity whether it be pity or just a general longing for something and crying. Sometimes I'll just say something to myself like I can't wait to go home and cry..and I'll just cry for no reason or I'll find something, anything to cry about
...and that feels good, it feels better than being happy sometimes...its so sick. I feel like I'll never be able to just be ok, I'll always come back to being miserable, because I'm addicted to it, it's such a part of me. Do I just accept this? Does anyone else know what I mean?

I can totally relate to what you are saying.
I think that we punish ourselves if we feel good. We are so used to being miserable inside, that we think we do not deserve to be happy.
That is part of the depression.
I also find that once I start crying,I cry for HOURS. I wake up the next morning and my eyes are swollen and I feel like I have a hangover.
Crying is a release. Some people scream and throw things,we cry (or do all of the others too).

Jenni,
Are you on any kind of meds? I used to do this but I hate to cry, but I do cry. I do not like the sad feelings, and try my best to beat them and I have learned through thearpy and meds that I can beat them.
Sometimes I still cry but not as often as I used to.

Jenni,
There has been some brain research on sadness and crying and I've posted about
it before. Crying can actually be beneficial to your mood. Go to this link and you can read what I posted.
Is there anything you do to prevent crying?
