Jenni,
I had been off and on 40mg Celexa alone for quite awhile to treat depression and although it significantly helped with my depression, it kind of left me "flat" and not the overall happy and energetic person I used to be. It was prescribed by my family doctor when I first became depressed 6 years ago. I recently decided to see an actual psychiatrist to see if I could improve my overall mental health and outlook. He switched me to 20mg Lexapro (the effective isomer of Celexa) and added 150mg Wellbutrin SR to it. I must say the results have been dramatic! The Wellbutrin took away my lethargy and lack of motivation. I am my old happy and energetic self again!
My understanding is that Celexa/Lexapro work primarily on seratonin and the Wellbutrin on dopamine... That seems to be the combo that works for me.
