Wellbutrin XL

I just recently found this message board.  I have been diagnosed with depression and have been given Wellbutrin XL.

I am 43 year old female and wonder if any of you that might take it "alone" with no other prescriptions how you feel the medication works.  I have read horror stories on side effects but do you think if I give it enough time it will finally work?

I have taken many other prescriptions and had no luck.

Thanks to any that can give me any information.

Welcome to the forum,I am very glad that you found us. I was on Wellbutrin for about 2 years,and I too had to take it with a different antidepressant. If you find it is not working then I would contact your doctor right away.

Well my biggest fear is over.  I took my first pill this morning and I don't feel any different.  I was most worried about the

side effects of nausea and headaches but so far so good.  I realize it's too early to tell but I am praying that this is the pill that is going to work. 

I am supposed to increase to 300mg from 150mg daily in 3 days but I'm going to wait for a few weeks and see how I do at the 150mg.

That is a high dosage,but if you still don't feel right then call your doctor right away,he might want to give you something to go with the wellbutrin.....

Most anti depressants take 4-6 weeks to take full effect.
If you can hold out that long,then hopefully you will feel the full effects of the med.

I would trust your doctor at this point. I know you are worried about the dosages,but if you find that after a few weeks it is not working,then give your doctor a call.
I was on the 300mg,and it worked fine for me. Everyone handles meds differently.

One day at a time,I am glad that you are not experiening any side effects. Just remember it can take 4-6 weeks for the meds to take full effect. Keep us posted

i am just gonna add to what everyone else is saying! i took welbutrin and had to take paxil in addition. for me personally, the welbutrin made me feel quite edgy...i switched to cymbalta and thats not working all that great so my doc has added lamictal. it just wasn't right for me -- b/c anxiety is my problem and that is a side effect. i also cycle quite quickly, which is a another story for another day!!!

I have been taking Wellbutrin for about 3 years now and it has probably saved my life. Not that I still don't have my ups and downs, but twice during the past 3 years I thought I was well enough to not have to take any medication but I was wrong and started back on the medication again and I realized how much it helps me. My only bad side effect is weight gain.

Hi! I am new to this board too. about two weeks or so, I stumbled upon tha board. I, too, and on wellburtin alone. I am on 150mg total, with 75 in the morning and 75 at night. Anyhow, I started on 75mgs in the morning and before I upped the dose i had horrible side effects. They started to go away two days before the dose went up. I started to take that second dose on monday, and its just as bad as it was in the beginning, and I feel much more depressed now than I ever have before. I talked to my doctors office, and the swear that it will go away, but if i feel worse to come in. I feel weird, like you said. I am also sooo tired, and yet I cant sleep. I am also dizzy, I get blurred vision, headaches, double vision, trouble retaining information, trouble concentrating, and my cooridnation is off. Basically, i'm getting most of the side effects. I do not feel better, I feel worse. And I dont really want to be on the medicine. However, you cant wean yourself off of it.

Hi there.................this is Kitt and I will post the most common SE of Wellbutrin XL...............this is FYI only and each person should be working with their own physician re all and any of your meds.

The common adverse effects associated with 12-hour sustained-release bupropion (Wellbutrin XL)) are dry mouth, nausea, insomnia, tremor, excessive sweating and tinnitus.

The development of mild to moderate skin rashes is associated with sensitivity to dye components within the pill coating. This can often be alleviated simply by prescribing a differently colored pill.

 

Seizure is the most controversial side effect of bupropion, and was responsible for its initial withdrawal from the market. The risk of seizure is highly dose-dependent and is a subject to discuss with your Physician.

There is plenty of info available on Wellbutrin XL and your physician and pharmacist are your best source for more personal information as they know all the meds you take and what other medical conditions you may have.
