I've had EMDR treatment. It was a God-send to me. In a nutshell, with my therapist's direction, I chose one specific memory (at a time), identified a negative thought/emotion associated with it and suggested a more positive thought. Then, the therapist moved her finger back and forth or up and down and asked me questions to help me process it. My issues were secondary trauma and adolescent abuse. I didn't realize going in that I would even address the adolescent abuse - I thought I had moved on. But it was surprisingly healing to me, allowing me to understand and forgive. It seemed like my mind/heart just wanted to go there. The secondary trauma also lessened its grip on me. For me, it was a great experience and worth the investment of minimal time.
Good luck to you if you decide to try it.
