Scotty - I am not going through the same thing, but my 18-year-old son is. His girlfriend of over a year broke it off for what we are assuming was a made up reason so she could see other guys (she had another BF within a week). Anyway about 2-3 times a week she would text him or call him asking him to come over, then would proceed to act like they were still together. He was beginning to think she really hadn't wanted to break up but had done so because of family problems she was having so he continued this for a month or more. Then, he got into an argument with his younger brother one night and tried calling her, she was not available. From that point forward he started to ignore her. When she asked why he said that it all seemed well and good when she wanted him around, but when he needed her to confide in she wasn't there. She kept texting him, then he finally told her to stop contacting him. That is when he finally started feeling better each day. He had been making plans before all of this to join the Army but she didn't like the idea. He told her he had to start living his life to make himself happy and he was through trying to figure out what she wanted. I believe he has done the right thing. I know you have also. Your life changes after a breakup...you no longer are making plans on when you will see her again, what you will do, etc. You now have to start routines all over again, and getting used to that takes time.
I would have him sit and write with you, but right now he is very much into getting his car running before he leaves for the Army. I know someone else here will come along that is going through the same thing. I thought I would just let you know you aren't alone!
