hI EVERYONE i'M NEW. i'VE BEEN DEPRESSED FOREVER. 5 WEEKS i DID AN AWFUL THING. i TOOK AN OVERDOSE. i CAN'T BELIEVE i DID IT. tHEY HAD TO PUMP MY STOMACH OUT. pUT ME ON NEW MEDS. wHICH SEEM TO BE WORKING. oNLY PROBLEM IS MY CHEST IS SO SORE. iT FEELS LIKE EVERYTHING i EAT GETS STUCK IN MY THROAT. cOULD IT PPOSSIBLY BE FROM THE STOMACH PUMPING. aNY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. confused

Welcome to our forum.  I am sorry to hear about your accident.  I recently experienced an "incident"  myself. Now months later, I have mixed feelings about it.  I am not sure how advanced your depression is but I will tell you that depression will absolutely dominate one day and be dormant the next, it is awful.

 

As far as your pain, if they did any type of compressions you may have a bruised rib or chipped zyphoid process (Sternum)  If that is the case, you will be sore for a while but no damage is done, another thing is sometimes they do what we call a "sternal rub" which means that you were unresponsive so they rub you breast bone aggressively to try to get any response from you.  That will really hurt for a while but will not cause any damage.

 

You should really have no pain regarding the procedure.  If any thing you may have some rawness of your throat  lining like a sore throat.  This is from the ipecac (charcoal syrup) they used to induce vomiting, plus you have a breathing tube, this could also make your throat sore.

 

I had muscle wasting with my event that will have side effects the rest of my life, as I am lucky that I can even walk normal.  In fact when I feel muscle weakness it brings back memories of that day and sometimes it serves as a reminder of how silly my actions were.

 

You will have rough days but we are here.

Hey Dog,

I am so sorry for what you went through.  This is so ironic, yesterday was a year since my cousin passed away due to an overdose of valium.  I sure wish that somebody would have been there to call 911 and save his life.  It is really sad.  And yes it is awful.  Please don't do this again!  If you need to talk about why you felt the need, feel free.  We are here to listen.  Just make sure you go by forum rules.  But talking about what led you to this point I think is okay.  You have to think about those that you leave behind.  I am sure that his mother is so very depressed at this time.  I know that he meant a lot to many people and here he thought he had nobody.  So don't underestimate yourself, I am sure you are loved by many.  Please don't take life for granted.  And write here when you need to talk.

I am sure that your sore throat is like Faithful said, from the tube down your throat, but that is just a small price to pay for your desparity.  I am happy that you are still with us.  We are here for you.

Thank you Karen and Teresa. One thing I have learned from all this is I am a very worth while person. I make a lot of difference in several people's life. Don't worry. It won't happen again. It was the worse thing in the world I could have done. I will keep in touch. Have a wonderful day. Marlene

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I am so glad you recognize your action was not the right thing and now you are feeling worthy......kudos to you my friend.

You are sore because, yes, we put a Big Tube down your throat right into your stomach and then we do a  gastric lavage.  In other words we use a closed system and flush your stomach with water and drain the contents. This is not a comfortable procedure at all.  You will feel sore. 

I am so happy you were fortunate to have someone know you needed this procedure.  Bless you and keep posting.

I am that way too. I O.D. on Ibeprofin. Its scarry!! All you have to do is relax and let it all out cry as much as you need. Its not fun being depressed because no one "gets" you. Well try to focas on the good side! Do all you can to get your mind off of every thing. BEST-OF-LUCK =)

You are very welcome for the advice.  The thing that I found simply wonderful is that you say that you are a worthwhile person!  There are many of us including myself that sometimes have a difficult time saying that!

always remember that you're a great person. you dont need to do things like that. like megan said, by all means just cry as much as needed. i really hope you feel better and please keep us updated.

Thank all of you for your concern. I am doing much better every day. I just pray every day for God to give me strength. Kit you said I should be sore for awhile. It's going on 6 weeks. Is that normal? Hope all of you have a good day. Love to all Marlene

Baby Tiger thank you for your input. I feel if my husband had left me alone I would have been fine too. He said he couldn't take that chance. So he called 911. Now we're stuck with huge medical bills because our insurance stinks. Of course that's more stress on me. Plus my chest hurts hopefully from having my stomach pumped out. I brought all this on myself. I've already gone through the guilt process. I'm just trying to enjoy my family and friends. Knowing how much they care for me.
